Minimum wage is essentially an entry level wage. It is not intended to be a wage around which people build their lives. The real problem is that people have lifestyles and responsibilities (by choice or ignorance) that minimum wage cannot support and too many don't seek to improve themselves so that they can earn a better wage.
Such a ban won't stop parents from allowing their children to have a soda with their fast food breakfast, post school snack or dinner. The majority of people with children have no idea of what is required to properly raise children in terms of diet, hygiene and morals.
Why not increase the duty on high sugar AND high salt products (chips etc) and implement a national lunch program created by dietitians so children can have at least one proper meal per day? BAMSI could supply the vegetable!
... ever given any thought to the people who have no faith in God and die? Death is a part of life, all die and some believe there is life after death. If there is a chance there is life after death, I would guess those who have faith in God would have one up on those who do not believe. But, don't worry, we will all get to find out for ourselves, right? Until then the man is entitled to his beliefs just are you are entitled to yours!
@momoyama ... correlation is NOT causation, church attendance has nothing to do with crime rates. The developed countries you mentioned have higher income taxes (40% - 60%) which funds education, healthcare and other social aspects of life. They also have had the time to create cultures that promote more 'tolerance' after wars and other catastrophes. Most notably they also tend to have stronger families.
Lastly, none of those countries (Norway, Sweden etc) have had to deal with the seeds of division caused by colonialism and foreign occupation as have the third world countries on your list. So. lack of education, access to basic healthcare etc and single families do far more to increase crime than religion!
We are all human, but only some of us bear the cost of financing this 'humanity'. We are all human, but not all are legal QC! I can only wonder how much the government has collected in property taxes from shantytown occupants over the years, meanwhile small business owners and homeowners feel the pinch!
... unfortunately education does not change the human heart. A person lacking integrity or who is morally undisciplined will only become an educated person without integrity etc! This reflects the current state of this country and the world. More doctors, lawyers, accountants and other 'professionals' in this country than any other time in our history, but more evil hearts, oppression, dishonesty and manipulation too! Religion is not the problem my friend, the human heart is!
BTW philosophizing doesn't change the human heart either!
