Government should not be in the business of home repairs, it sets a terrible precedent that is unsustainable and encourages political tribalism. Only homeowners with up to date property taxes should be able to qualify for low interest loans from local banks so that taxpayers don't get burdened with loans that default.
The governments focus should be on fixing local economies so that people can afford to take care of their own responsibilities!
... at least Filipinos are here legally, are better educated, better socialized and don't breed like flies, and when intermingled with, they improve the gene pool!!
I have heard too little gratitude coming out of these shelters. I understand their frustrations, but people should at least be thankful that they are alive, son't get wet when it rains and can eat and bathe due to the generosity of donors!
Valid points, but it is concerning that so many do not seem to understand the the undercurrent of frustration, resentment and disenfranchisement Bahamians feel in their country as a result of politicians manipulating illegal immigration for political gain over many decades, while taxpaying Bahamians struggle to make ends meet and now must bear much of the cost for reconstruction in hurricane devastated islands. It has nothing to do with hate or thinking one is better than another, but simply the poorly expressed frustration and overwhelming hopelessness many Bahamians feel in their own country!
*Over his career he has served as midshipman, acting sub-lieutenant, sub lieutenant, senior lieutenant, lieutenant commander and commanding officer of HMBS Nassau. He has also served as administration and human resources officer at the RBDF Coral Harbour Base.*
.. these things tell us nothing about his actual competency, since promotion in the Bahamas is seldom by competence. .On the job training, in an organization that allows Haitian sloops to beach near their base, failed to respond properly during or after Dorian etc, does not bode well for the future of the RBDF. Doesn't anybody there have any real experience?.
Most poverty in this country is self inflicted by not taking advantage of an education, single parent homes and failing to plan, save and invest for the future. Being a single parent is usually a choice! People also have a "I want a job" mindset but lack a strong work ethic. People will spend money on weaves and tattoos but won't buy a book to learn financial literacy. People will spend money on what they want and beg for what they need. Those are problems!
