It is time the Bahamian people wise up and stop using their emotions to choose leaders. Just because a person can secure a nomination and eventually become a party leader does not mean that person is qualified to lead this country. We have too many incompetent undisciplined people who lack critical thinking skills offering themselves for higher office in this country.
I hope others soon join him in leaving the party because Minnis may be Prime Minister, but he is certainly NOT a leader!
So people with rental car businesses at the GB airport were able to get many of their vehicles to safety, but the police could not plan that far ahead? Why do we entrust our safety to these people? Sad!!
Mandatory evacuations are only one part of this problem. After people evacuate, where will they go? Government approved shelters failed miserably. First responders have zero disaster management training, so RBDF officers can only hand out bottles of water and not do much more. The focus should be on the colossal failings of NEMA,which had responsibility for training, planning and acquisition of equipment and supplies in the event of the 'big one". They should address governments failure to zone flood prone areas as unfit for construction, and address governments poor response in the aftermath of the storm. Even worse is the government continuing to appoint people with no disaster management experience to lead disaster management organizations and efforts. Non enforcement of building codes and a lethargic post hurricane response by the government may have been responsible for the majority of the deaths caused during this hurricane. We have idiots who cannot think strategically or problem solve leading us, that is the biggest problem! What bill will they propose to solve that?
The government cannot even create a strategy to clear roads, provide security and get food and water to the people who need it most and I should trust these funds will be spent cost effectively? Sounds like a big kitty with plenty hands in it with more government borrowing to me. Some folk are going to have very good Christmas!
*"I am a son of the Universe with a deep appreciation for the dignity of ALL people - dignity and respect is human birthright! Nobody is "illegal" - "undocumented" yes, and should be processed quickly by the laws of this sovereign country - - but this sub human vitriol, and rabid exclusion across these islands towards Haitians negatively consume too many of us. I am hoping that our nation's leader doesn't bow to the overwhelming pressure to broadly discard these humans as if they are secondary. "*
Since the law determines legality, there is, by default such a thing as illegal. Many are in Fox Hill because they have broken laws. Entering this, or any country without travel documents automatically means you have entered illegally. You can be treated with respect and dignity and still be illegal!! Try taking some cocaine into a police station to sell and see if there is no such thing as illegal. Your statement is idiotic. Laws create an ordered society. This has nothing to do with race or culture but abuse of immigration laws which just happens to be of large numbers of a particular people from a certain country, and people are getting tired!
