This is a great story, and I am so happy to know they survived. I hope that the same thing can happen to our country which has been "adrift" a lot longer than 8 days. Will we be rescued?

4ren - I guess the difference is that there wasn't trial since the person pleaded guilty during the initial hearing.

When someone pleads not-guilty then they are put in remand to await a "court date" which is kind of like awaiting a date with Paris HIlton - you'll be waiting a while.

However, even so - it does seem a little strange that from noon-Tuesday until now, she was arrested, brought to hearing, convicted, sentenced, and transferred to prison.

Lots of times sentencing is done at a separate appearance in court, which would have then needed a court date.

I guess it's just bad luck for her too that the stenographers decided to come to work on Thursday so she could be sentenced. Those people are usually on the missing list quite often.

Finally, I would say that the sentence is way too harsh. This is just one MORE example of why our prisons are full of people that don't belong there - and we don't have room for real criminals. In addition to the fines, 6 months (the initial decision by the way) would have been more correct.

NOTE that the article says that because she couldn't pay the fines by 3:30 pm the same day (Let me say that again - the same day) she incurred an additional six months in prison.

The newspapers should make a front page headline about this: something like,

"Not having immediate access to $909.00 adds six months to PRISON term"

Perhaps this should be made a part of the Road Traffic Act. When you come to get your car licensed or drivers license renewed you must also bring a letter from the bank stating that your average balance in your account over the past year has been $1000 or higher. It could also be a requirement for passport renewal, and other important documents / registration.

If this is a reality of the courts, then people need to be taught the lesson - there is a penalty for being poor.

Of course I am joking on that point. I feel that the 2nd part of the sentence is simply unfair. But who am I ? Just a normal "citizen" whose opinion don't matter diddly.

Yes, they claim to be against gay lifestyles - but they are fine with the gay activities at the prison.

Ooops, wait, I'm sorry - I'm sure there's no "official evidence" supporting any such activity. My bad. LOL.

If we keep signing on to more and more International Treaties, all of our MP's can just stay home. It would be pointless for us to make any Laws because we'll have enough of them to follow given to us by our foreign masters.

How funny for a country who laments its history of slavery. The same texts and the same old stories are repeated in "history" class every year from 7th to 12th grade. They tell how terrible it was when 'we' were in slavery.

But now, guess what??? we're signing up for it. asking "please please put us back in chains". It don't get no funnier.

Nope - he is right. The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. The FIRST step should be enforcing the parking places you mention. If we can't do that, then we don't need any more legislation that we also won't enforce.

Don't worry about all of that aviation stuff. Remember what the father of our country said. If you can't fish, you can cut bait.

Probably right. The details have yet to surface - but most likely this child is being trained by the mother to win a full scholarship to Her Majesty's Prison.

The kids don't need school anyhow. There are no jobs waiting for them when they graduate in 10 years.

If the parents would just keep them home and teach them how to use a mop and bucket they MIGHT get a job with a foreign-owned hotel when they grow up in our "independent" country.

Every July 10th it is just so amazing to see all the people stupidly celebrating "independence". If they could only GROW UP and stop coming out to these ridiculous events it might show the Government that the people are not buying their lies anymore. But no, there's free food and drinks there - so we'll sell out our children to get summa-dat.

The article shows just ONE of the many results of that choice. Free food? or a real country. The choice is made by everyone every year.

Are we already members of the WTO? I hadn't heard we actually signed on yet. But, maybe this is just training us to be the slaves we will become.

Maybe we can find some old documents from the 1800's in our national archives, from US and European historical societies that studied our slavery tarnished past. IF we study them carefully, we might learn how to gain access and how to behave under the upcoming WTO.
