And all of this nonsense meanwhile Social Services is begging for resources. They have dozens of employees who have been on the job for over 10 years and have yet to be "confirmed" as government employees. In goverment that means that you have passed your probation period, you can get a raise, and you can transfer to another department or ministry within government.
So these people haven't had raises in over 10 years. The Minister was up last week or so telling them to keep their faith in God. I guess they ought to because government's not gonna help them. (This article was on here about a week or so ago).
This is just a way of making an excuse for not giving social services the resources they need. Any money that might come into the treasury that could help them - now has to go toward this nonsense.
Oh well, should we have expected any different? Of course not.
People often reply to me saying that "you can't get anything done in 3 years". Man I wish I could tell that to my boss. "Hey boss, can I just sit around here for thee years and get paid?" How would that work out.
Of course, if things are going too they could get elected for another 3 years.
Just like me. If don't get (for example) all my boxes labelled and sorted properly in the warehouse come Friday afternoon 5pm - my boss is very likely to let me come back to work on Monday and work on the remainder. However, he probably would not if he sees I only worked on 3 boxes out of 75 and 2 of those 3 are labelled incorrectly. He would find someone else.
Because of that, I label as correctly as I can and work on as many boxes as I can.
Government, however, does not have to work on anything - and anything that they accidentally put their hands on does not have to be right or even close to right. Wasn't this Prime Minister in office 8 years ago? And we hired him back again because? And wasn't the guy who was in office 2 years ago also in office 7 years prior to that? And we hired him back in 2007 because?
The overall idea is to bring us in line with expectations so we can join the WTO. That is extremely silly. Why would a country that doesn't manufacture or produce anything (not even salt anymore - they closed) want to join a trade organization? What do we have to trade?
We trade hotel rooms and restaurant food and taxi rides for money. That's it. Those are not exported.
It is simply a ruse to allow others to import things in here without paying duty.
Some "honorable" people will get goodies in return for selling us out.
The only solution I see to the Bahamas is to change the Constitution to have elections every 3 years. Five years is waaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyy to long for anybody to goof off without consequences.
Wow, along with the Queen's so-called new Charter on gender equality (joke #1) - we have joke #2 for the day.
The organization is called "The United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women)"
So it's gender equality - but it is for the empowerment of one gender. This reminds me of the time just after Mandela became president of South Africa. He gave a speech in which he said he would work for the uplifting and empowerment of black people. This from a man who fought for decades for equality among races. Hilarious.
What if we had a farm organization called the "Society for the Protection of Farm Animals and Sheep." ? Aren't sheep farm animals? So why do they need special mention? Aren't women a gender? So why do they need special mention?
So what is lauded as a unique, modern, and almost unbelievable event - seeing that is coming from an aged Queen - turns out to actually be a same-old, ancient, and quite believable and ordinary event not worthy of any attention whatsoever.
The article says that the Charter's reference to "other grounds" is "intended" to refer to sexuality.
What a joke.
So in other words, they were unable to use the word "sexuality" in the Charter.
Amazing. But not at all unexpected. Change without any change at all.
So if we amend the Constitution to remove the Queen, and we become the Bahama Republic - do we need to change the 'h' to an 'n' and the 'm' to an 'n' ?
I guess the good thing about the global economy sucking very badly right now - is that at least there are fewer potential foreign investors for us to offend.
Why do we want to join the WTO anyway? What do we have to sell? We don't even make salt anymore, now that those guys in Inagua closed shop. Even when we "made salt" we didn't make salt - we just scooped it up off the dry basin and put it in big sacks and sent it off to "the man" in Orlando to process into actual bags of salt suitable for purchase in the supermarket.
We can't even bag and label salt - so what the heck do we have to be worried about some other country placing trade tariffs on us under the WTO? What product would that affect?
We are setting ourselves up for penalties under the WTO for not letting other countries come in here and rape us, while we get absolutely ZERO benefit from it.
If I'm wrong and there is a good reason - why hasn't the government told us what it is? Oh yeah, we're just the people. You know, those stupid folks who line up and stick their thumbs in ink every five years and then WAIT another five years while they stick it to us.
The overall budget at COB ought to be cut by 70%. Bachelor and Associate degrees are a waste of time for anyone in the Bahamas - and for many in the usa. what job/s are you going to get with one?
There are NO JOBS and no prospect of any jobs for many years to come. So what the heck does anyone need a degree in anything for?
The only course offerings at COB ought to be introductory, intermediate, and advanced Mandarin Chinese language courses. Maybe a few weekend courses in Creole. That's it. If you want to work in the Bahamas - you've got to learn to speak the national languages.
High level finance, accounting, engineering, Supreme & Appeals Court, hotel management, etc. etc. etc. are all reserved for foreigners - and that is still even irrelevant because the numbers of such jobs is trivial overall.
Learn to install and/or unclog a toilet and you MIGHT get a job, if you have connections.
Did the FNM actually sell those properties to the Chinese? Does anybody know if we received any money and what happened to it? Did Mr. Ingraham just trade those hotels for a stadium and a couple of egg rolls ?
He should first apologize on behalf of the FNM for throwing Glenys Hanna Martin out of the House of Assembly when she stood up and demanded answers about the boy that was (found) hung by his own belt while in police custody - when they were in charge.
Funny how the tables have turned. I don't support either party - but often laugh as they play their roles perfectly well each time they change seats. This should be open to the public, and that should be open to the public, and we should have 10 year term limits for prime minister, and we should have elected Senators, and all sorts of grand ideas - that quickly disappear once they are the ones who would have to give information to the public, or have their terms limited, or have their behaviour investigated by an independent commission (if there ever was one), etc., etc.
But, note that only 8% of the people supported the third party this time - so translate into meaning 92% !!!!!! gave support for things to continue the way they have since 1969. They are getting what they asked for.
