Very sad to hear this, the Keys without locks, got me in tears. I think i would do the same. We need sensible directives, from a sensible government, with a sensible Restoration & Reconstruction PLAN going forward. The gov should do everything it can to help small businesses in all affected areas. Build smart and use renewables.
Wishing you a speedy recovery Mr. Smith, we need you to keep speaking-out on human rights and environmental issues, for all our sakes, and before we all lose our rights as citizens of the Bahamas and the world.
Dr Sands please get one of the Ministry Of Health's dietitians to make up a healthy diet plan for the Bahamas and post it everywhere for all to see. With the favorite bahamian foods and budget friendly, easy to prepare meals that will appeal to an average Family. Base on Weight Watchers or something. For example- Breakfast selections- Low fat Souse, made the day before and fat skimmed off the top. Tuna / sardines and stone ground high fiber grits with no fats etc. Lunch- Lots of quick packed lunch ideas. Dinner- Grilled meats, Healthy peas and rice made with high fiber rice. steamed veg. Snacks - fruit, nuts, veggie sticks. Drink 8 glasses of water & no sodas.
We have a generator but need to replace fridge, pool pump, water pump, microwave and TV due to brownouts and spikes. The neighbours are using our genny's power cords so they can work from home. We can endure ok, but there are some that have died and the morgus can't keep the bodies cold.
It is unforgivable that this is happening in 2019, all because of past and present governments corruption, is killing us all and destroying our way of life. We need to jail those that caused this sell their house, freeze their assets, get the money back.
I think R H Albury is correct! At the end of the day & dollar for dollar, it keeps more visitor money in Bahamians pockets. Ok so home prices 'may' go up, but that's still fine if there are more people making more money. Car rentals, maids, chefs, and the homes will be kept in better condition so plumbers, electricians, landscapers, security companies, painters, you think of anything to keep a house and the people living in it happy and they will make money. Plus the visitors go out to eat and still visit all the places regular tourists go to as well, so all the tour companies and attractions will also benefit, so will all the bar-tenders, waiters etc.
Looks like the BHM proposal was a sound one, seems to makes sense to me! What’s wrong with using a UK low interest loan? Keeping the project owned by Bahamians makes sense too. (Plus the money stays HERE)
However, by getting loans from China, BOB or IDB etc., our Government always wants the taxpayer to suffer the costs. I guess those guys give out more "incentives" than BHM? So, are they the Few getting richer you are referring to?
Why can’t you see that, for any out-island to prosper, we need safe airports and we need good roads for the nation to be productive. Then there will be more economic growth benefiting all Bahamians, which then leads to less suffering for the poor.
