The govt. needs to allow more competition in the banking sector. That's how the situation will change, not by them mandating any new laws which will only lead to the existing banks finding other sneaky ways to stick it to the consumer. They can go either one or two ways or perhaps both, invite in another major commercial bank, eg. one of the American banks to the commercial space, or allow the numbers men to set up their bank. Either one will offer lower interest rates to get into the market, and then the other banks will have to drop theirs to keep up with the competition.
I figure they probably need to repay some supporters, so no better way than to give out some hefty contracts to your loyal supporters to build a new house and PM's residence. Listening to Christie and his boys, the former administration left the country finances in terrible shape (which there is probably some truth to), owing to that being the case, why in the world would you spend 50 plus million on something like that, which the country doesn't need, even if you want to repay your loyal supporters. The PM has officially lost his mind.

The national enquirer is accurate on a lot more stories than most people give them credit for. That being said, am sure there are other stories much more pertinent to the lives of Bahamians and others who have to live here 24/7. This is not news!
Police too busy sitting up in strip clubs, watching the show and then locking the workers up because the club owner probably didn't pay money to the 'right' people, instead of using the same energy and effort stopping 'real' crime that is happening where people's property is being destroyed. Go figure. Bahamas= third world banana republic

I hated reading all the silly comments by the mainly jealous Bahamian women on facebook and other places over this. They think that by having less strippers that means more men for them... well guess what strippers or not if you are an unattractive ugly Bahamian woman ain't no man want you no how. Why you concerned who was in there as patrons, as long as it wasn't your husband or boyfriend, but heck it might of been, men gone spend money on women they like one way or the other, and if they don't like you they gone spend on other women. Just get the eff over it, step ya game up, then maybe men wouldn't feel the need to go to strip clubs. Shutting strip club downs won't do anything about the desire men have for them. I love strippers and hate jealous always-hating Bahamian women who think they know it all. Some of us men just ain't interested in yall, ain't nobody getting robbed, killed or raped in the s trip clubs in fact they probably are some of the most peaceful places in Nassau. yall Bahamian women just need to step up your game and/or get a life.
Self-control, discipline, prudence are all things greatly lacking, amongst many Bahamians. Everyone trying to keep up with the Jones', usually with an empty bank account, and an empty brain that causes it. Sacrifice and hard-work are things which many Bahamians don't understand, which partially explains the D grade point average, we live for now not for tomorrow.

You've got to be joking, I don't follow the news too closely but isn't this like the third or fourth time this happened in a very short time frame.

Does anyone who live in the Bahamas actually surprised by this?
The answer to that should be more troubling than the actual incident.
