Heaven forbid that equal rights should be extended to LGBTQ people here in the Bahamas. That would be abomination! God told me so, so don't argue with me. The Bible is never wrong except the part about the Earth being flat and......................................Sarcasm, right on!
American Airlines in fact merged with U.S.Airways. United is a separate company which most recently merged with Continental Airlines. Prop-Jets are NOT obsolete and are far more economical on short routes (less than 300 miles) than are jets. ATR72's and Bombardier DHC-8 Q400's are still being manufactured and sold in large numbers to prove my point. Few government controlled airlines in the world make money for their owners, Bahamasair is no exception. Bahamasair needs more long haul routes in order to make money which would require more expensive aircraft purchases. Maybe some kind of a deal with Caribbean Airlines should be considered at least for long haul routes. Bahamasair should also work with Bahamian owned airlines to take over smaller, less profitable routes and act as feeder airlines for Bahamasair. Just my 2 cents worth!
Rather tired of listening to the same old drivel from christianists who act like they and they alone should be able to dictate which citizens are deserving of equal rights based on what they perceive their sky god has to say about it in the bible. I would like to remind you that Jesus Christ during His 33 year life on this planet never said a word about homosexuality. If it was such an important subject than why is that the case? Human rights are gay rights. Gay rights are human rights! Kim Davis is a public employee who is obligated to do her job as a public employee. She does NOT make the rules, the respective state legislature makes the rules. If she can not do her job serving ALL citizens than she should resign or be fired! Religious belief does not give you the right to be a bigot. The U.S. A. is but one country that gives equal marriage rights to its gay citizens. Canada, Mexico, Cuba, Spain the UK, Norway, Sweden and Denmark are a few of the others. No man is free unless all men are free. We can only hope that one day the Bahamas will extend human rights to all of its citizens. Just because it is your culture to discriminate against certain people does not make it right. Equality to all citizens!
There is no shortage of U.S. hypocrisy. On one hand, marijuana is being legalized for medicinal use in many states and some states have legalized it for recreational use. But the U.S. never ceases to tell other countries in the world what to do. The U.S. needs to get its own house in order before telling other countries what to do. I can dream can't I?
Try being a white Bahamian living in the U.S. trying for the first time to get a Bahamian passport in order to take a trip to the U.K. Had all the paper work, birth certificate from Nassau and applied in person at the Coral Gables Bahamian consulate office and paid the application fee. Despite sending registered letters (3 times) to that office and making more than fifty long distance phone calls, the Coral Gables office has never responded to the Passport application and the person in charge of the office in Coral Gables refuses to speak to this man period. Not even so much as a written response much less the courtesy of any kind of response to the application despite paying the fee. Mind you, this person can not go to Nassau without a passport to try to get results directly from horses mouth. A very sorry way to deal with your own citizens but I'm not surprised This situation has been going on for four years. After 44 years of independence, the Bahamas has some work to do in dealing with its own citizens or maybe I should say white citizens.
I would much rather take the educated word of Desmond Tutu and Nelson Mandela who very much believe and promoted the human rights of ALL people (read the South African Constitution). At least these two men have some credibility as compared to the rather poorly educated and same old "fire and brimstone" rhetoric of some of our local Bahamian religiously perverted "ministers" who preach the same old tired drivel! I've always wondered where all the "love" is supposed to be in Christianity with all the hate being spewed by these so called Christians. It would appear that some so called Christians practice selective religion since they seem to ignore other so called abominations that are also in the Bible such as eating shell fish and pork which they conveniently ignore. Christianity is rapidly becoming a cult for the stupid and ignorant. Their argument against equality for all people just isn't working anymore. Time to join the 21st century.
Real progressive countries are extending rights to LGBT people worldwide. Countries like Spain, The Netherlands, Canada, the U.K., Mexico, Brazil and the U.S. which is living up to its creed that ALL men are created equal, not just heterosexuals. Even here in the Bahamas, the Bahamian constitution does not technically discriminate and what consenting adults do privately is NOT against the law. Maybe one day some of the people who don't believe in equality for all will be able to accept this progressive concept. But for some, ignorance will truly remain blissful for them. We are all not truly free until all men enjoy freedom and equal rights!
