It's to funny that Smith is trying to now discredit the 2010 study on the impact of flats fishing in the Bahamas, seeing as he has referenced it numerous times in the past to support his position. This is just an attempt to constrict competition in the flyfishing industry.
You picked out an important part. It doesn't say how many people applied, just how many total applications. Lets say each person asks five times, that's only 36 people, and 8 were granted parole? That's almost 25%!
They are trying to tell a story using only the numbers that make them look good.
Actually a ton of people fish without guides. You clearly have never done any fly fishing yourself if you think the only way in on a boat with a guide.
People do bring guides with them on a very limited number of instances, and guess what, that is already illegal as you are not to be working in the Bahamas as a foreigner without a work permit. That's aside from the fact that you want to single out white guides. You do know some Bahamian guides are white?
This legislation just uses very protectionist wording to try and enact laws that already exist and are currently not being enforced. This is an attempt to funnel the most amount of money through a few people at the expense of the entire rest of the industry.
There is no natural resource overrun. Bonefishing in the Bahamas is nowhere near it's capacity. No one is stealing any ones pie. This is the type of fear mongering politics that leads to xenophobia and hate.
Exactly what you said. Going through Chapter 11 would have had construction going again now with a set completion date, creditors would know how long the wait for their money will be, and we wouldn't look like a country of thieving idiots. But hey, the boys on top had to protect their kickbacks from the Pointe building so they sided with the Chinese.
So incredibly sad. They put their own interests above that of the nation.
When the storm first appeared of the coast, rebuilding costs and the chance to steal and siphon off the money was the first thing the PM thought about. Why do you think they didn't issue any warnings? All they saw was the green of the rebuild. The government doesn't care one bit about the people on those islands and whether they lived or died.
What's your concern? This is private money being invested. The investors aren't interested in regattas, they are interested in making money off of a race track.
