According to how the legislation is currently written, you would only need a guide to fish from a boat if you are not Bahamian. Walking the flats would be fine, but you would need to get a permit to do so.
Also, no the $600 isn't set in stone, but rates for a day for a guide with a boat range from $500-$800. I'm not sure how many guides there are that would just join on your boat or if they even have a rate for it right now because it's not very common.
What a joke! Corruption has been uncovered by an audit done by the exact people put in place to discover this sort of thing, and now they are spending tax payers money to buy another report from a private firm to say they did no wrong. Can they not see how bad this looks? Are they so willfully blind as to think they can just steal in broad daylight? Are we, the people so willfully blind as to let this happen?
Of course they are only able workers with customer service experience. Try hiring a qualified accountant for less the $42,000 a year. At that payscale they will never have the competent employees in place to run actual audits.
The government should not hire any new employees. They already have enough people doing little to nothing. That $4m and every other dollar that they are wasting needs to go into education and training. If you want a life without crime, then we have to educate the youth. Simply growing the government is part of what got us into the broken system we now live in.
Birdie, you are blind to logic and reason. You are a perfect example of the problem this country faces when trying to select competent and qualified leaders. Your interests lay more in the colour of your shirt than the well-being of your neighbour.
Sell it! Enough with the government trying to run businesses. They are terrible at it and it's costing all of us hundreds of millions of dollars a year. BEC, Bahamas Air, BOB, and on and on. Enough is enough!
So with all of this grand outrage, was anyone actually inconvenienced by this? Can we find a story of the person who was unable to get to a hospital due to there not being an ambulance? This was a dumb decision to allow this to happen, and it could have put someone at risk, but luckily it didn't. The person responsible should be informed what they did wrong and the PHA should take this opportunity as a teaching moment for all of their workers about proper use of resources. But enough with the witch hunt mentality. It's over, it was dumb, but luckily no direct harm was caused by it. Let's just make sure resources are better used going forward.
Now, if everyone could take all of this great outrage and apply it to something that actually matter. Maybe the state of crime, or corruption, or government transparency. Something that affects all of us, yet the vast majority we don't hear a peep from. It's wonderful to see people getting behind something here in the Bahamas, but just like this ambulance, let's focus this resource on much more important problems.
The PLP have not done a thing for poor people in anyway. This is one of the only smart things they have done. You think the PLP gives a crap about anyone but themselves and lining your pockets?
Birdie you really don't offer anything to these discussions. You're as effective as the PLP government.
