You're right about the what happened to the money, but why the xenophobia? Just because there are some things that are non-Bahamian doesn't make them foolishness. There is more than enough Bahamian foolishness of our own.
Not just funds derived from VAT, but any funds that the government manages to get their hands on. There is absolutely no fiscal responsibility from our leaders what so ever. Given then money is like giving a junkie crack. They are addicted to wasteful spending.
You are absolutely right. Bahamasair is just another mismanaged crown corporation whose purpose has long since passed. Every year they cost tax payers money. It's not as if there are no other options. In fact the other options are usually cheaper and more reliable.
Sell it off, make some money and pay down the debt. The government has proven year after year and administration after administration that they cannot run a business.
They actually said that renewables could meat "a significant portion" of it load. He was singling out heavy industrial customers as having load profiles that don't work as well with renewables.
This is what happens when succesive corrupt governments spend all the their effort and time trying to rape and steal from the Bahamian people instead of working to improve the education system and social services. And it's also what happens when the vast majority of Bahamian citizen, sit around and do and say nothing about it.
The failure of school system has left most of this country illiterate and uneducated. Citizens lack the basic skills required to do the simplest jobs. Unemployment is at it's current level because the unemployed are not trained to work. This leaves them with little to no options. As crime rises, tourists stop coming and 70% of the economy of the Bahamas will begin to grind to a halt. The longer this is left to fester, as the leaders flip flop back and forth between excuses while the Bahamian people sit around and suck their teeth while doing absolutely nothing, the worse it's going to get.
It is a past time of the Bahamian people to blame others for everything that does not go their way in life, and in this case it is true. The governments of this country have done nothing to help it, but that is the fault of every Bahamian. It is the people who put these corrupt leaders into power and it is the people who refuse to stand up and demand something better for the country. For once we could actually do something, actually demand something of our governments and our leaders.
John, there are no solar panels on any of the Tesla batteries. They can be added but they do not come as part of it. The battery is called the Powerwall. This technology and products that do this have been on the market for years at fractions of the cost of the Tesla unit. SolarCity, one of Elon Musks other companies, which install solar systems will be using these batteries in some of their installations. When adding solar panels, the cost will more than double from what just the battery alone will be.
The Tesla battery has no solar panels on it. It's simply a battery that you can charge with grid power, or alternative power, and then can be used by your house. It also costs a lot for the amount of power it provides (10kWh, while an average home uses about 30-40kWh a day). There are already lots of options for batteries that do this exact thing for about 1/4-1/3 of the cost. It's also something a lot more Bahamians should be doing. These battery systems can be used in place of a generator for our constant blackouts.

But also, good for the Island House. I think the upscale boutique hotel model is a very good fit in the Bahamas.
