Forget just medical use, lets get on with legalizing and taxing it. We can make some money from marijuana instead of spending incredible amounts on police, courts, and jails. Police can use the time and resources to catch violent criminals. Legalizing it mean that gangs no longer have control over the market weakening them. Lets get on with it. The rest of the world is moving in this direction. Are we going to lead or follow?

On Debate to open on marijuana?

I'm pretty sure the door to dishonesty was wide open well before this new policy.

Sweeting is correct that this does not actually address the issue.

Are you kidding? Lightbourne owes Bahamians, you and I and everyone, over $100,000. That's our money he has, and then the Prime Minister, who is supposed to represent all Bahamians decides to do this man a personal favour by trying to use his position to influence the bank, which in any real democracy is considered corrupt.

Only in the Bahamas is this considered acceptable by some people.

Just another example of the fiscal irresponsibility from our leaders. We're a broke country but our leaders seem to think that borrowing another $232m will be just fine.

The integrity of the banking system was never in question. It is the integrity of the Prime Minister's Office that is in question.

The WTO will spell the end for any local manufacturing. We simply cannot compete globally. The idea that we have 'trading partners' is a farce. We are a buyer and other countries are sellers. It's not a partnership, they don't buy anything from us.

The manufacturing jobs in this country, while limited in numbers, are good jobs, with steady pay cheques and from low to high skill. These jobs will all be lost.

What a waste of time and money.

On Bahamas has one more WTO 'step' to achieve

What exports are they talking about? We don't export anything from the Bahamas except crawfish and that just goes to the US who want more than we can sell.

Joining the WTO does not benefit the Bahamas. Our economy is based off tourism, not manufacturing or exportable natural resources. Our population is tiny and we cannot compete globally for manufacturing work, so joining the WTO is simply a make work project to go from collecting customs duty and tariffs to collecting VAT or payroll tax.

We should be focusing on bringing down airport costs and improving our accessibility to tourists, not worrying about non-existent exports. This whole WTO thing is just a waste of time and money.

On WTO chief: VAT can generate export boost

Maybe the reason the Ministry of Finance has '7 different systems' is that the Minister of Finance has no knowledge of finance.

We need a proper access to information law and much more transparency. There is absolutely nothing stopping the political leaders from spending and taking whatever they want because no one can ever see what they are doing.
