I really doubt most of the leading politicians in this country even know how to use email. Getting them behind current technologies, even with under the table kickbacks would be an almost impossible task.

Not a single major, or minor economy in the world is trying to move beyond fossil fuels. By all means you should push for alternatives, but that is currently exactly what they are, just an alternative to our mainstay, fossil fuels.
A very tiny area of Alaska still sees some residual effects of the Exxon Valdez oil spill, which was the result of outdated shipping technology, a drunk captain, and very poor regulation. We have learned from such tragedies, and looking back and digging in our heals to point to one particular incident is a disservice to progression.

Should we not be pushing for better regulation, better oversight, and better use of our resources, rather than blindly pointing at oil and yelling that it is the devil?

This is a terribly uninformed and short sighted view of how the world actually works. Some of those countries may posses the capacity to generate electricity from non-fossil fuels, but until we find some great river system to dam, or until we build ourselves a nuclear power station, then we and most of the world will continue to rely on fossil fuels for electricity. This of course, doesn't mention the fact that all transportation in the world is reliant on fossil fuels.

It would be nice to someday have a world with clean energy but that is not the current reality and will not be for some time. We should be pumping this oil out while we have the opportunity and using that money to better our country.

There is no justice to be sought, all those involved are long gone. The slave sellers in Africa, the slave traders from Europe, the slave owners in the colonies, and the slaves themselves. If your father took something from my father, does that entitle me to something of yours?

The customs officers aren't even being asked to work extended hours, just to work on a shift that isn't 9-5. They're still being asked to work the same number of hours.

So in your mind, homosexuals are the cause of women leaving the home and going to work? That adoption is vain and that adopted children will hunger for their biological parents? That children cannot be raised by single mothers? That the only reason for marriage is procreation so if heterosexuals are only allowed to marry if the are able and willing to have children? That if we have same-sex civil unions every child will believe that the only way to raise children is with two lesbians? That the reason we have divorce and single mothers is because gay people get married? Gay people cause hiv/aids?
