What a classic reply to the dumb question of " how much ? ", thank you Mr. Charles Carter. These honors are over due, but in Bahamian fashion I say " better late than never." Sir Sidney Poitier is well deserving of these honors. He along with Calvin Lockhart were my inspiration when I was acting and modeling. To the Steering Commitee, your labour is acknowledged and greatly appreciated. Remember also the late Bahamian actor, the smooth, Calvin Lockhart , and let's not forget radio pioneer who brought us " The Young Bahamian radio shows, Charles Carter.
What's all this " his servants " being used in this report. Are they "servants" or employees...there is a big difference. If these in fact are servants, then the Government need to investigate. The last time I checked slavery was abolished.
I totally agree with you. The website can provide amply information about gambling. Personally, I think it's just an excuse to visit Las Vegas to so that they can " let their hair down." I am a Bahamian Gospel Minister who lived and worked in Vegas, my wife and I relocated to Florida in 2011; so, I know first hand what goes on once the " cats are out the bag." Ha...ha ! At any rate, we have many well-informed, educated, legally-skilled personnels within the Bahamas that are well able to write our own laws, by-laws, guidlines and regulations to govern legalized gambling in the Bahamas. We boast of being independent. What message are we sending by always depending on some foreign consultants. Do we still need to be governed by the British, or some other? In the words of Jamacian music legend Bob Marley, most Bahamian and a lot of Bahamian politicians still need to " Emancipate themselves from mental slavery free .
It is right, appropriate, befitting and justifable that the Prime Minister untillise this beautiful automobile. After all it was ordered for that purpose. Only the small, narrow, poverty-minded would oppose this Mercedes being used and enjoyed by the person who occupies the high office of the Prime Minister. The so-called current financial state of the government is no reason for not enjoying this luxury. England, America and other nations with so-called financial uncertainty still afford their leaders the luxuries that is fitting. The so-called Queen of England still rides in her many Rolls Royces. I don't hear these poor-mind folks vinning about that. Mr Prime Mister, you have my permission to go ahead to use and enjoy this lovely Mercedes with your drop-dead gorgeous wife. PS : If you do not want to use it, I will be honored to releave you of this fine driving machine...ha...ha ! Rich-Blessings....Reverend Rich L. Kemp
The alledged owner should be the only one charged for operating illegally. Perhaps these ladies were told the club had a license to operate as such. Undoubtedly some of the arresting officers, clergyman and other officials frequent this joint, or others like it. The truth be told, the strip cluds are the first place many of these so-called " upstanding citizen " visit when the hit Florida or some other destination. Like gambling, strip clubs should be legalized. Taxes yes, but legal. Personal freedom of expression should not to hindered,or blocked by a bunch of hypocrites, I know, I've been one. Thank God am free. I predict that it will happen sooner that later.
Have you noticed that none of these Bible quoting preacher who oppose gambling never quote a Bible reference, that's because there is NONE. There is NO scripture reference FOR or against gambling. All the preachers who are opposed to gambling is simple expressing their personal religious biases and convictions. I lived and worked in Las Vegas and have seen some of thes preachers at the casino tables in living colors, so stop the hypocrisy. I gamble. I am not addicted. It does not control me I control it. People are going to gamble whether it's legalized or not. Prohibition is a good example. As for Sands who said, " Bahamians were not discipline enough " to legalize gambling, he is undoubtedly, speaking of himself, not any other Bahamian. He is simply revealing his ignorance, stupidity and his negative self-image. The Bahamian people are well able to handle gambling, yes, like any other activity there will be those who will be abusive. Like food,we can abuse it and become gluttonous, just look at the many fat preachers. We are salled to govern ourselves first...and leave other people " tings " alone. As a minister of the Gospel I call for the legalization of gambling in the Bahamas. How hypocritical, to say, it okay for the toursist, not not for Bahamians. MONEY is MONEY. Now is the time to abolish this archaic law and allow freedom of expression.
