Huh, two or three gallons? There is no “robust environmental monitoring” in the Bahamas by anyone or any company because that would imply a robust response (from any governmental department really), whose job it is to protect this country and it’s citizens.
If they had any plan or it’s intention they’d be crowing over it. Any more talk of a ‘plan’ for Pinewood etc. will only come near election time and it still won’t be a plan. Sigh.
Well then why doesn’t ole Freddie stand up by doing his job? The US report on trafficking highlighted the fact that since Davis was elected, efforts to stem this scourge haven’t been successful. Among other things they reported evidence that revealed Immigration officials weren’t interested in doing their job; indeed they’re making money to look the other way when employers bring in ‘lawfully’ recruited (possibly trafficked) workers, some w/o permits. Furthermore they refuse to help them upon complaints of abuse and harassment.
Under this and previous PLP administrations the rule of law has never been a guiding principle, but rather the rule of power over the law. And only when voters discern this pattern of corruption will the Bahamas be unshackled.
Really? This gov’t cannot even build a hurricane shelter. They got $1M from India last spring to complete the shelter on Abaco. They announced in Sept and again in Nov of 2022 that the previous gov’t’s plan was “inadequate”. Three weeks ago Storr had the identical complaint and his grand tour revealed they’ve done nothing in over a year. https://youtu.be/bZaLQEK0mYw
It seems that most folks except for crass individuals like Munroe, understand that respect must be earned and so the lack informs us. Munroe umbrage in the US State Dept’s report stems from it’s unfavorable comparison to the previous administration.
Particular to the 2023 report are the lax efforts of the DOJ, DOL and DOI to identify, prosecute and curb observed abuses in departmental corruption, employer abuse towards foreign/migrant workers, and a general indifference. For ex. deporting any worker who submits a labour violation. The US pointed out that this gov’t looks the other way on the forced labour of migrants/foreign workers, allowing employers to hide their permit info, confiscate their passports, and twice pointing to government contracts w/ Cuba for medical workers, labouring here likely against their will. That Davis & co has gutted funds for victims by 51%, thus ensuring their likelihood of sticking around to testify, negligible.
Its the same corrupt playbook they used to line their pockets in previous administrations. Perhaps Monroe &co should seek respect in some admiration society for despot governments? I hear Trump heads one.
Columbus’ schemes for mining wealth from the Caribbean wiped out the Arawak, Lucayan and Taino peoples through overwork, torture, starvation, rape, infanticide, the list is endless let’s just call it genocide. Why should he be celebrated as a hero?

Raping and killing, theft, smuggling, drug and prostitution rings, just what is the oath of office these gov't officials swear to uphold??
It's not law and order, and it is certainly not to represent and serve the needs of the peoples of The Bahamas.
