This story is heart breaking and shows clearly how little interest we as a people have in the humane treatment of animals. In other areas of the country the pigs live on island with trees and bush for shade and a source for fresh water. What I see here are cages on a rock, nothing cclose to a normal environment for these animals. Shame
Perhaps those upstairs need to look past "lowest bid" and look at what the bidder is capable of! All the negative comments never seem to amaze me. What I'm hearing is "it doesn't matter if it's good for the country, if it wasn't done by a PLPer, it ain't no good"! Boy, da black crab strong hey?
Coops, like it been said, you ain't working too hard to be a fool! It seems the only purpose for the PLP is to disagree and tear down anything that's good for the country and GB in particular.
Once again we have a Government with no balls! The strongest possible message should be sent to the Dominicans. If they continue to rape our resources, ie young, undersize, out of season fish and lobster, then soon it really wont matter. Reasonable prison times, hefty fines and total confiscation of assets. Hit them where it hurts, in the wallet. The mother shi0ps should be cleaned, towed out in the ocean and with much publicity, blown to bits and sunk. Don't keep the them tied up to a dock to rust, don't give them back, eliminate them! The Dominicans have no regard for sustainability or Sovereignty and apparently, never will!
Honestly, it's about time someone called out this issue. The way some people dress and go out in public is unbelievable. Do they not have a mirror in their house? Who needs Walmart!
Excellent article, a good read. Although I still have faith in this Government I am very concerned, like the article says, it's becoming "business as usual". I would hope the powers to be step down from their high horse and read this and listen. Listen to the people because, they put you in power, they can remove you! My only concern about his article is immigration. Although I am completely in agreement with the decent treatment of any human being, I do not support opening up the gates. Our heritage, our culture is being transformed right before our eyes with the invasion of other cultures en masse. Immigration is about protecting our borders and controlling the movement and settlement of non citizens in a proper and legal way. It needs to be fair, humane but firm.
I tend to agree the decision has already been made by the sheer arrogance of the PM not to attend the meeting. However, I would hope he could see the passion of our people and the lengths they go to, to try and preserve this location for Bahamians for generations to come. When Disney takes it over, our own people will not be welcome there. This is such a sad state of affairs and speaks volumes for the environmental interests the Government does (not) have. Mr. Prime Minister, PLEASE, at least humour this proposal!
None of these revised penalties can come too soon! But like it is said, enforcement, enforcement, enforcement. Whether you believe it or not, we are going to cause our fish, crawfish and conch to collapse if we do something, and soon!
Listening to the words of Brave Davis, I don't know how they can show their faces in public! The PLP had no clue on Grand Bahama, and did nothing for the island. Now you want to stand up as if you guys have all the answers. Please, sit down and shut up!
Absolutely, increasing the fines however, I would push for zero tolerance with automatic confiscation of assets. The assets except the mother boat to be sold off, proceeds going to the Defense force budget, the mother boat to be stripped and sunk or scrapped, never to be used again. Our fishery resources are precious and we should protect them with passion!
