This brain drain is nothing to brag about. We can look for many excuses why Bahamians do not return after study abroad, but our country is not the better for it.
Maybe if those who go abroad should return after 10-15 years and give back, then our country will be progressing further along.
Without an effective, safe, and organized public bus service in Nassau, the island will descend further into chaos. It shows how Bahamians are not willing or disciplined to use public transport. The bus drivers and their owners cannot be excluded, either. Many are lawless.
The time has long past for a private vehicle moratorium on New Providence. Limit each family to one car per household or be prepared to pay a hefty tax for the second, third and fourth vehicle. But that can only happen if there is public transport covering ALL of the island.
UB is a public university. Why is funding the main issue? So, having an American as UB President will guarantee more funding? Did Smith bring in more funding OR the 3 foreigners before that? Help me figure this out.
BAMSI is a fancy "research" school and a slush fund for the well-connected through another SOE ............. Ms. Shepherd is correct that the real Bahamian active farmers of vegetables, root crops, corn, legumes, citrus, fruits, poultry and other livestock should be identified and each be given stimulus to expand 300-500% over the next five years ........ Then freeze imports and revamp what these wholesalers & supermarkets can sell. The Government is not serious. Just talk.
Please tell your PLP (and the FNM as well) Government to stop kow towing to the big food importers and make them buy and sell Bahamian ............ There are at least 1000 food items that Bahamians can grow and process. But, we all know that the issue is far deeper than that ........ Bells and whistles and visits to Dubai will not solve this issue.
But Bahamians must see the need to eat what they grow and wean themselves off this dependency on cheap foreign food. Until then, there is very little that any Government can do. Fast food and foreign-based items on our daily menus will continue to be the order of the day.

I agree with the 3 above comments. The PLP has nothing new to add. Still stuck in the Pindling mindset. Just different actors
