The Bahamian tax system NEEDS a complete overhaul .......... This is the ideal time to do it as we try to rebound from Covid & Dorian. Whether the FNM Government will do so, depends on the political climate leading up to the 2022 Election ........ and beyond.
consider this:
What present taxes should we keep? ... fuel, vehicle, stamp, departure, excise, customs, real property, NIB/Health, business, VAT12 etc What present taxes should we get rid of totally? What present taxes should we increase rates? What present taxes should we decrease rates? What NEW taxes should we consider in order to enhance social equity? How can the post-2021 tax regime be BETTER collected by Govt or private sector? How can ALL Bahamians be encouraged to pay their taxes more efficiently/timely? How can the Govt reduce the amount of non-receivables from its taxation system? How can the Govt ensure that Bahamians are compliant with taxes before benefiting from any Govt incentives? How can younger Bahamians (U-40) be educated to engage in greater awareness of the importance of paying taxes (compared to their forebears)?
Rewarding entitled delinquents ............. Our Governments will never have respect because they always bend over backwards to help those who can afford to pay ......... Poor & ordinary Bahamian people do not have to pay Real Property taxes ........ most of the RPT are paid by Family Island wealthy expats, Eastern Road and Western NP/Lyford Cay/Albany and other rich enclaves ....... Why give them a break????????
Dawes ........... a theoretical document must be implemented by human beings with all of their shortfalls and imperfections ........... Changing our Constitution in this present political climate is as remote as paying off the national debt.
Maybe he was hoodwinked by the woman ......... and there is an ongoing investigation into the background/character of his wife ........ Who knows??????? ....... Many sides to a story.
There are too many foreign women taking advantage of shallow Bahamian men who are looking for some kind of love that they believe that Bahamian women cannot give them.
What is in the Constitution is not always practically applied in the specific Laws & Regulations (and Offices) pertaining to the issues at hand ........ Efficiency & Honesty in Government cannot be compared with a cold legal document .......... Not in 242 or in most countries worldwide
Go to Jamaica and try get a Government document out of the offices in Spanish Town .......... Far worst experience than in Nassau
