The Bahamas has been under severe stress from hurricanes for the past TWENTY years …… has there really been a National strategic plan to deal with hurricanes??? …… (1) Are the laws anymore effective today that back then????? ……….. (2) How do we determine hurricane "shelters"? ……….. (3) What is the role/power of the RBDF in a state of emergency zone? …...… (4) Who can demand an evacuation????? …….. (5) What is the Nassau vs Island plan to redevelop a devastated area? ……… (6) Is NEMA relevant or effective anymore???? .........….Twenty years on and the answers are still vague and confusing to the average Bahamian.

What/Who is better to gain some sensible idea about where our economy is/going????? ……….. Listening to an economist/retired politician OR listening to a rich doctor/active politician?????? …………… Who has more 'horses" in the race??????

Like everyone else in Government, the Speaker is a toothless tiger who must answer to the PM and his Cabinet ………. It is a farce that the Speaker dictates anything of substance in the House ……….. His Office is just like the Office of the Governor General - Pomp, Pageantry, and Powerless.

If The Speaker had any REAL power ……. (1) He would have changed the House Rules …… (2) He would have ordered the PAC (or the many other House Committees) to do its job ………. (3) He would have gotten the MPs to respect his Chair …………… (4) He would have gotten the House to meet on time ………… (5) He would deal with non-compliant MPs who do not report their annual $$$$$ affairs ………… SMH

To many Bahamians are a bunch of self-hating, self-defeating people ………. its a mystery that we are still doing so well as a country ……….. only god who hears the prayers of the remnant keeping us covered with his grace and mercy.

In 50% of the Out Islands that account for 70% of the land of the country, there is little or no economic activity to brag about now (Cat Island, Rum Cay, Andros, Eleuthera (mainland), Long Island, Ragged Island, Crooked Island, Acklins, Mayaguana, Long Cay) …… a few islands have fairly reliable but "one company town" economies that may keep those islands afloat, but tenuous for long-term growth (Inagua, Bimini, The Berries, Exuma, Harbour Island,& San Salvador) ……… Spanish Wells, Grand Bahama & Abaco are in serious flux ……… New Providence has absorbed 100,000 Out Islanders since 1970 ………… No Government has dealt with this outmigration problem since Independence ……… Minnis has not come up with a real plan to solve it yet …………. The country cannot grow when 75% of the citizens live on ONE rock.

Ian Ferguson refuses to admit the first problem ………… Our separate and unequal system of public & private school education makes it almost impossible to reform as it presently operates ……. Money and social status really matters in this system, not practical and decisive reform that will upset the social status quo ….. All these nice ideas that he is suggesting cannot solve the education problem in The Bahamas unless we will:

(1) Tear up the old 1960s Education Act and start over …...………….(2) Close the majority of the private schools that are ineffective and non-performing (based on NAECOB standards)……... (3) Create K3-Grade 5 and 6-8 schools (with an aptitude test) ……. (4) Introduce Grammar, TVET and STEM (magnet) public schools after Grade 8 (stop wasting talent) …………. (5) Create single Central High schools and Boarding Schools on the Out Islands ……. (6) Let School Boards really function like in other places around the world and not like the Local Govt gimmick that we have now ………. (7) Create a Teachers Service Commission and really professionalize them (and take power back from the lousy Unions) …….. (8) Find some progressive, competent, apolitical educational leaders to run the Ministry/Department of Education

Adrian Gibson has been the ONLY Executive Chairman in the history of WSC to have the boldness and BALLS to stand up to the institutionalized plant underproduction, overcosting, and employee non-productivity and corruption that has plagued every SOE since SLOP days ……… We need at least another TEN Adrian Gibsons to clean up the others ……. Bahamasair, bpl, baic, bmc, nfs, etc.

It is politicians like GravyTrain Davis who has run these SOEs into the ground for decades …… He should be ashamed to open his mouth …… but he has NO shame

How can Income Tax be collected without it ending up being corrupted like Real Property Tax, NIB, or Business Tax ……… when kisses will go by favour???????

Simple formula ……… Exempt all income earners under $20,000 …….. 5% on up to $40,000 ……. 10% up to $50,000 ……… 20% up to $100,000 …….. 25% for all who make over $100K ……… 30% for all who make over $200,000.

But lawyers, doctors and accountants will not vote for this suggestion.
