So ............. if the present BPL is a disaster to manage, and the workers are leeching the Government.
How will maintaining the status quo make sense moving forward????
We can only assume that the workers will either be fired or retooled and the structure of BPL management will have to change in order for the THREE stakeholders to be satisfied with taking this BPL albatross on.
So this Minister is not telling the FULL truth to the Bahamian people.
You are correct ........... the NP politicians co-mingle their generals in the LG system and use it to push political agendas in the Out Islands.
Then again, the citizens hardly ever exercise their power to demand better or even get an account of the funding that is given out by Nassau. So, the responsibility for the dysfunction is double-sided.
So, the LG leaders make all kinds of silly decisions in their little closed meetings every month and the citizens are rarely ever consulted or included in the happenings that are overseen by PM handpicked Family Island Administrators.
The LG system is just as corrupted and dysfunctional in the Out Islands as the Central Government is on Bay Street Nassau NP.
That is true ............. but WHO will get the kickbacks and other "under the table" deals from these three so-called stakeholders from the breakup of the current BPL entity?????
The Unions have a lot of selfish reasons for not wanting this BPL deal to take place, but the secret nature by which the New Day government is going about this system leaves ALL Bahamians to question Jobeth & Gravy Davis dem.
BEC was a profitable entity until Bradley Roberts took over after 2002 & started fuel surcharge & caving in the the Unions who now have the whole country in a vice grip.
Then came PowerSecure under Perry/Davis ....... Now we are at the end of the road (privatisation)
No matter how the New Day PLP spin it. It is privatisation.

As long as the Family Islands depend on Nassau for funding, there is NO local government.
This system is the biggest ruse that disingenuous politicians in Parliament attempt to gloat over as "advancement" of the Out Islands.
