I ask in all seriousness and not at all to be snarky...why get rid of BISX? As far as I can tell they have three employees (certainly 3 employees are not causing The Bahamas to go broke). The amount of subvention to BISX is peanuts compared to other corporations. They (BISX) actually turned a profit this year (see their latest annual report). So again I ask, why get rid of BISX?

DDK, I do not, for a second, disagree with you that the public sector is bloated. But, the question is, what is the alternative. If you fire/let go/make redundant people in the public service, those let go will certainly be low skilled, poorly performing employees who do not have the ability to procure another job. In short, they are structurally unemployable. So, they are not released in the work force, without the ability to get a job, only one of two things happen: a) they turn to crime (after all, they have to eat, etc.); or b) they turn to welfare and put a strain on the government resources anyway. Simply slashing the public service does not help. Again, I wholeheartedly agree that the public service is bloated, but, really, there is nothing that any government can do.

Slightly disagree with you, ThisisOurs. The Hon. Member only has the platform he has now because of the fact that his party won the election and, specifically, he won due to being a member of said party. Had he run on any other ticket he would have lost. It, then, the Hon. Member is so disenchanted with his Party and, as I see it, is losing faith in the Prime Minister and the manner in which the PM is trying to effect change, then the Hon. Member should do the honourable thing and resign. Then he can opine free and clear as he wishes. If you notice, despite all that the Hon. Member has said, he is not willing to lose the comfort of a M.P. seat. Either express your views in quiet, or express them publicly (but not as an MP). Can't have it both ways.

MadHatter, yes, you can legislate that (it will be seriously challenged by the way and I opine that the bill will never pass). My question is, why do you want to legislate that. As the Bahamian people have already show in 2007, 2012 and 2017, if we don't like how you are governing the country, we will move you...simple as that. Why take the power from the people, who already can decide how long someone stays in power? On a list of things to do for the Bahamas, this falls around number 9,588.

Please refer me to the appropriate Articles in the constitution that says this.

The problem is, Sheep, you either employ them and pay them...or, you pay social welfare benefits to feed them and/or you pay the prisons to take care of them when, inevitably, they will resort to crime. Personally, it would make more sense to place them on the job and, if they are so motivated, take advantage of the training opportunities that said job offers, with the hopes that they better themselves. A pipedream? Yes, I concede that. But, it is better than throwing these unskilled (and that's what they are) people onto the street and say "fend for yourself".

Brent Stubbs, awful as usual. I counted 9 grammatical and other obvious errors. Tribune, if you employ editors, then it would surely be nice if they come to work and, you know, edit!

John, I will respectfully disagree with the gist of your argument. Regardless of the girl's circumstances (or the guardians' for that matter), that type of abuse inflicted on that minor, and it was abuse, should not be tolerated by any level headed adult.

Dawes, the constitution does not say that they are entitled to citizenship. It says that they have the right to apply for citizenship. Said application, obviously, can be rejected.
