All Bahamians need to wake up and see how these concessions sets us up to lose our assets, nautural treasures, and control our future in a way that noone wants. It does not matter how many diplomatic relations students trained in this other country, ambassadorships and gifts, unless WE exercise control we become unwitting pawns in the larger expansionism and strategic plans of this other country, From the other country's history in the African continent, and in lesser devloped countries including now increased investment in the Caribbean, these arrangements usually result from direct dealing with the governments and leaders of lesser developed countries rather than in a way that fully engages the opinion and the long term concerns people in the lesser developed countries. That way, this other country eventually gets what they want, a signed, purchased, long-term strategic stake in a distant countries' natural assets, which seems supportive but even at the start hinta at what is wanted - long-term access to certain goods, assets, locations; with strategic and economic advantages favorable to the buyer: with benefits to the seller up to the wisdom of the governments and leaders, only: the buyer, this country, takes a hands;off approach to doing anything more than asked by the bargaining government or leaders. The government trading off its resources for jobs and investments that bring in money can be taking the easy but dangerous path. We have survived hurricanes, colonialism, and many other trials, and our population has grown and the conjunction of poverty and limited education has abettted the growth of crime. Fast-moving deals may provide jobs and training but should not cause increasing loss of 'space' and assets that are our identity and well-being. Any decision involving potential for significant and permanent impact on our resources and assets must first protect our welfare and that of our descendants.
