I suspect most Bahamians don't realise who is funding the propaganda of the Organisation for Responsible Governance’s (ORG) which heaps so much praise on the international rating and lending organizations that are responsible for encouraging our corrupt government officials to borrow as much as they can whenever they can, notwithstanding the unsustainable level of our country's national debt.
> “It is very hard, very hard for the tax system to track the multiple tax years for multiple types of businesses,” Mr Wilson said. “There’s no country in the world where businesses can pick their tax year.” The Business Licence (Amendment) Bill 2022’s clause 17 thus “seeks to provide transitional provisions for persons who were on a financial year other than the calendar year”.
There are very good economic and financial reasons why many types of businesses have a fiscal year-end that coincides as much as possible with the end of the peak period of their economic business cycle. It's usually the time when inventories and receivables are at their lowest and, accordingly, the fiscal year-end balance sheet paints the best picture of financial strength, liquidity, etc. in terms of key financial ratios that are often linked to debt covenants in borrowing agreements.
But Simon Wilson seems oblivious to this important economic reality which is why the revenue authorities in developed countries are loathe to force businesses to adopt the calendar year as their fiscal year. Once again we see the incompetence of Simon Wilson on display. And let's face it, he would be the first one to complain about his department suffering from serious backlogs in processing business license returns, etc. once all businesses have been forced to adopt calendar year financial reporting.
Many of the other proposed legislative changes Wilson talks about are equally laughable in terms of the added levels of costly and time consuming bureacracy they would create for commercial taxpayers; adding layers of frustrating bureaucracy that would all too quickly stifle the life out of most businesses. Talk about a dingbat!
Valuable natural resources of the kind that have been exploited by the cruise ship industry for decades now whereby their foreign stakeholders have reaped enormous profits in exchange for leaving our nation with little economic benefit but plenty of pollution. Think sun, sand and sea.....these are invaluable natural resources that our successive corrupt governments have allowed to be exploited by foreign investors who contribute very little to our local economy.
All excellent points and I couldn't agree with you more. I too am very familiar with the culture and way of life in the U.S. as compoared to Canada having lived at various times of my life on the east and west coasts of both of these countries.
You obviously are not familiar with any of the writings of the famous U.S. economist Milton Friedman. He developed the well known economic model by which developed nations are able to get less developed nations hocked in unsustainable debt so that their natural resources can then be exploited for mere pennies on the dollar of their true value.
The economic model takes advantage of the ease with which corrupt governments of less developed nations can be made dependent on the lending 'tit' of international lenders who represent the interests of foreign investors domiciled in the developed countries.
And Davis has so far also refused to comment on the use by Jobeth Coleby-Davis of a vehicle under her control as a lethal weapon with intent to cause serious and/or deadly harm to a police officer. It seems that Davis, much like his predecessor Minnis, has no control whatsoever over his cabinet ministers.
Are they really going to build homes on the Pinecrest flood plain? Didn't they have this official opening planned for earlier this month but had to postpone it when we had all the rain that caused so much flooding in low lying areas of New Providence? It sure took a long time for the water level in the flooded areas of Pinecrest to subside.
Snake has a reputation for building and selling homes in new communities prone to serious flooding. Buyers of homes to be built in Pinecrest had better make sure that they and their children know how to swim. LMAO
