Bowe has a valid point about the need for it to be made easier for customers to switch banks whenever they choose to do so. And that should not just be limited to deposit accounts, but should also include credit facilities. Getting a 15 or 30 year mortgage loan from a bank should not mean the borrower must put up with lousy services, higher interest rates and exorbitant fees from that bank for the next 15 or 30 years. And the banks always charge outrageous fees to facilitate the transfer of loan or other credit facilities to another bank, often requiring you to maintain a costly chequing account or savings account with them if they have given you a loan or other credit facility.

But cry as they may about the possible need for price controls to rein in the gouging likes of Scotia Bank and Commonwealth Bank, both Bowe and Brathwaite know full well commercial banks typically resort to cutting their administration expenses and raising their service fees in bad economic times. They do this whenever they find themselves in a terrible economic environment in which their net interest income takes a serious hit because of a dire lack of qualified borrowers and limited investment opportunities. The problem is, bank service fees that go up in bad economic times never seem to come down in better economic times.

You need to read up on your Bahamian history, in particular what the Bahamas was like for a lot of Bahamians before 'majority rule'. Sadly though, a great number of older Bahamians now have good reason to believe they and their families are worse off today than they would have been had majority rule not come about.
