I'm embarrassed to say my 22 year-old grandson recently said: "Who was this Poitier fella and why is he so famous?" But he knows just all about all there is to know about LOP, both good and bad. Being the first black PM of The Bahamas has obviously resonated much more with the youth of our country than being the first black American to win an Academy Award. Many of us who are much older can and should admire Sir Sidney's legacy but not without keeping it in perspective and within its historical context and significance for our small nation
Are you really saying Sir Sidney wanted to pay more taxes during his lifetime and therefore decided to spend most of his life living in the U.S.? Put another way, do you really believe Sir Sidney did not want to spend much more of his life in The Bahamas simply because Bahamians have no appetite for paying taxes of any kind, especially income tax? lol
Yup, the super wealthy globalist oligarchs and their anarchist friends are in their glory as they fleece and herd the dumbed-down confused sheep and young lambs to slaughter.
Focussing on taxing Bahamians rather than economic policies that would create decent paying job opportunities for them in the private sector is short sighted and puts the horse before the cart. Bahamians cannot pay taxes if they have no financial means to do so.
We also desperately need to reduce our grossly over-bloated civil workforce. Simon Wilson is terribly mistaken if he thinks blood can be had from a stone. Also, the much lower hanging fruit to be had, with the biggest bang for the buck when it comes to straightening out our country's finances, is to put a colossal dent in the large scale corrupt activities of our elected officials who are inclined to give away the best that our country has to offer to greedy vulturous foreigners and foreign owned enterprises for mere peanuts in secretive quid pro quo deals.
The big question is: Will the doctors and nurses coming our way from Cuba be allowed to keep their passorts and return to their home country whenever they wish to do so?
The WHO and its affiliate the PAHO, which are controlled lock, stock and barrel by the Communist Chinese Party, are currently under investigation for human trafficking abuses whereby they have assisted less developed countries with recruiting and then forcibly retaining (detaining) Cuban healthcare workers.
And like her predecessor, she very much enjoys strutting around like a well-feathered peacock as if she was elected by the people rather than forced on them. lol
