Love the headline to this story. Contemptible Davis's favourite useless saying that "It Is What It Is" immediately prompted me to think, "And You Davis, Are What You Are!"
The headline spared me the time of reading the article. There's only so much hogwash one can stomach and Davis is very capable of giving anyone more than a belly-full of it.
This is perhaps the most shocking and frankly mortifying proposal that has ever come out of The Office of The Prime Minister. And I think it's safe to say the political careers of Davis, Pinder, Munroe and Bell will all quickly come to a screeching halt if they recommend government proceed with such unconstitutional nonsense.
Has this PLP government lost sight of the fact that the The Bahamas is a democracy and the Bahamian people elect a goverment to serve the people within the context of the rights and freedoms guaranteed under our Constitution and system of laws? With that most fundamental thought in mind, how can any cabinet sub-committee possibly be formed and have legal standing for the purpose of the government seeking to indemnify any branch of itself from illegal acts committed against the people.
The absurdity of this proposal, whereby government would be indemnifying itself and/or introducing liability caps to protect itself from the harm and damages inflicted by it's very own law enforcement officers on members of the public, is beyond comprehension. This would be an abuse of power of the kind only found in authoritarian police states ruled by brutal dictators.
Just how dumb can Davis, Pinder, Munroe and Bell possibly be? No government duly elected by the people has any legal authority or standing whatsoever to indemnify any portion or branch of itself against the very people it was elected to govern and serve within the full context the Constitution of The Bahamas.
The fact that we now have an attorney-general appointed by Davis, namely Ryan Pinder, who apparently lacks a gifted legal mind and would be prepared to entertain such foolishness by a cabinet sub-committee comprised of only other lawyers with similarly ungifted legal minds, should give us all pause for some very serious thought.
Is this really the best Hanna-Martin can do, i.e. state the obvious about our failed public education system that has been known to most of us for decades now? Many of the more systemic problems she speaks of were around long before the pandemic came along. God help our children.
LMAO. It's become increasingly clear that Davis can't even reconcile his own personal cheque book register. I suspect the financial mess our country is in today, and what, if anything, his administration can do to mitigate the severity of the impending measures to be forced on us by the IMF, are all well beyond his level of comprehension.
I guess Bowe just doesn't realise that the drop in the VAT compliance rate has more to do with the significant increase in recent years of the number of business failures and the number of Bahamians now living at or near the poverty level.
As head of the Coalition for Responsible Taxation, Bowe's *"voiced optimism that the 10 percent VAT slash will generate more revenue than the current structure once zero ratings are eliminated"* seems somewhat insensitive given that he knows full well that our highly regressive VAT taxation system hits the less well-off in our society the hardest. The wealthy continue to get their great free-ride at the disproportionately unfair expense of the poor.
Good for you @Dawes. The very disgraceful Minnis has absolutely no credibility whatsoever. He has a voice that will never find an ear, no matter how hard he may try to be heard.
Right Kwasi. So why don't you tell all of us why you morons in the last FNM administration increased the VAT rate from 7.5% to 12% as one of your very first acts in parliement after winning the May 2017 national general election? LOL
> Davis said, "We will increase the level of public investment through a combination of direct government expenditure and public private partnership."
Why doesn't this twit realise that he should be introducing business and investor friendly policies that create the conditions necessary for increased **private** sector growth and decent paying **private** sector jobs as opposed to public sector growth? Our public sector is already much too over-bloated and costly as it is!
Doesn't Davis know that we all know *"a combination of direct government expenditure and public private partnership"* is nothing but code for the politically elite ensuring that they themselves, their financial backers and their favoured cronies get unjustly enriched at the great expense of everyone else in our country?
