It is unfortunate that ZNS is the only A.M. (amplitude modulation) station in the Bahamas. It is the only one to have the ability to reach the family islands, and the only source of news. The political bias and skewed reporting is all that can be heard in the out islands as F.M. (frequency modulation) cannot reach these parts due to its inherent nature of broadcast ability. Thus there is no choice of alternate sources of information, so listeners in these outposts are led to believe only what they hear on politically coltrolled airwaves. Cable Bahamas does not cover every house and home as mandated upon its genesis even in Eleuthera, as they feel that small clusters of homes are not profitable enough to supply a node even though he cable itself passes right by these homes. So ZNS A.M.is the only source of news and poor programming. For thesereasons as well as others it should be privatised andtaken out of the political hands of those in power - perhaps then it might turn into a profitable entity.
They also charge VAT of 7.5% on TOP of 45% duty on imported items whether shipped in or accompanied by the traveller. A tax on a tax - it is a disgusting deception and nothing more than a low down money grabbing tactic. I hope that my new government reviews this situation.
This is a man for whom I have the greatest respect. If the PLP wishes to become above the gutterbox element that it has woefully descended into, it must raise the brains of its grass roots or leave them to dry up in the dust. In any case, without salient thought they are neither relevant nor worthy of a vote.
Reality_check - Brent has little to nothing to do with Ocean Cay or Bahama Hot Mix. My wife's former and present family has controlling interest and work them both, the first is uneventful because aragonite is plentiful both sides of the Gulf Stream and so many places elsewhere - also nothing can be shipped to the U.S. unless it is in a U.S. registered vessel, so most prospects are pretty lean - also regarding BHM, she and her ex-husband started and continued BHM. She would load the furnaces at night with skid steer equipment and started to employ Bahamian labour as it grew. So there you go - sorry to burst two imaginary bubbles!
Mrs. McKinney is well qualified to oversee this daunting task as well as - if not better than anyone foreign and being Bahamian that would be money kept here and she would have the incentive to prove her worth rather than running off and disappearing after a job is half done like others have done.
