So it seems that monies go in through the front door via Government employees salaries (who must bank there) and our VAT, NI and other tax money, and immediately out the back door via loans to Christie's cronies, henchmen and lackeys. Surely to goodness there must by now be a moratorium on all new loans and lending at BOB?
You couldn't make this utter nonsense up, yet our Central Bank, Securities Commission and BISX all condone it. I am almost at a loss for further words, because I cannot comprehend how this is not illegal - which it surely would be in any civilised country. What next for Christie - will he tax (steal) all savings accounts not banking with BOB? Damn it - I shouldn't give him ideas..........
Just to echo what others have already said....the PLP and their cronies are now actively making a mockery of our legal system for their own personal ends. It stinks to high heaven.
My biggest fear going forward is that cases (murder, robbery, rape, shootings) may in future be brought before the courts, only for the AG to pull another nolle card from out of her backside pocket because either (a) the defendant is a croney / friend / lackey of the ruling Chinese politburo or (b) money has changed hands. Boy, that lost Baha Mar franchise revenue must really be putting a hurting on Hanna, and she badly needs another source of money.
In my humble opinion, the leaders of the protest have made a bit of a tactical error. By making demands, which cannot reasonably and practically be met within such a short timeframe, they have perhaps opened themselves up to a loss of favourable public opinion. Christie and his lapdogs will be more than happy to meet the leaders, obviously with a full press corp in attendance, all smiling, all joking, and then we won't hear a peep until next March or April (because of Christmas, New Year, Chinese Junkanoo etc) . The best way, I think, would have been to hand in the demands, and wait for a response from Government......the deafening tick-tock of the Election Day clock would have made Christie spout his usual nonsense, Frederica would have reminded us that diddly squat would ever change as long as the PLP is in power, Miller would continue to be an idiot whenever he opened his mouth, and in May next year we could all have used our votes accordingly.
Don't anyone worry - residents of Nassau will be paying for their damage repairs......BEC's financial results for this year will not be tabled in the House until, say, 2021 and will be accompanied by a footnote saying
"Increased borrowing in 2016 occurred as a result of Hurricane Matthew - these loans are guaranteed by the Government (i.e. the taxpayer). Interest associated with these loans is at commercial rates, and are offset by way of increased consumer fuel charges since the loans were first drawn down"
**Mr Ho and his associates have reportedly been unsuccessful in attempts to expand gaming interests into Australia, Canada and other countries due to alleged associations with Chinese triad gangs in his Macau casinos**
. Great - just what we needed. Now we can look forward to the Pointe being filled with the criminal underbelly of China, and gangs of triads terrorising the Bahamas from the comfort of their luxurious downtown condos. This, together with giving the Chinese our land and fishing, is definitely the end for law-abiding citizens.
If this matter is settled, and the asset sold, then where will the liquidators get their fees from? It's been decades since Gulf Union was first put into liquidation and they don't want to get off the gravy train.
One thing is guaranteed - not a single Chinese worker would have been left unpaid in this fiasco. And now that the Chinese will officially be finishing Baha Mar (goodness knows when.....) in effect Christie is using our tax money to pay for the hordes of Chinese workers who no doubt will be re-hired, rather than using honest Bahamian workers. Shame on the government !!!
