Can anyone please answer this question related to realty. What about those expensive houses rented by expat bankers - will they attract VAT? If so, will the cumulative additional VAT expense, on rentals, insurances, business supplies etc drive away some of our second industry, and if rentals over $100,000 per annum do not attract VAT, then why do they not ?
We still need many, many, more questions answered in the remaining time before VAT is introduced.
Dr Bizzel - do us all a favour and stop running after each and every post here trying to justify the despicable actions taken by local vets.
I, and hope many, many, others will be using my Twitter and Facebook accounts to publicise the greed of you and your kind, and I hope that the "outside world" sees you all for what you really are - greedy, uncaring and self-absorbed.
Quote "Yet Mr Wilson told Tribune Business: “What difference does it make if it cost $200,000 or $300,000.”
This pretty much sums up our Government's attitude to how they recklessly spend OUR money. I wish I could live my life without worrying about the odd One Hundred Thousand dollars here and there
Will wonders never cease ? A victory for common sense from the Courts....why Mr Lockhart could not use common sense in the first place is the baffling part.
All it needs is a "Dear Mr. Halkitis" at the beginning and a "Yours faithfully, JohnDoe" at the end, and it could be a letter to which we all would like a full government response
Let's face it - with only 8 months left, the government cannot possibly be serious about a July 2014 implementation. The following still need to addressed:-
Which businesses will be affected. What goods will / will not be rated. Enactment of the necessary law. Allocation of VAT registration numbers to affected businesses. Implementation and testing of VAT software by both businesses and government agencies. New stationery of affected businesses to include VAT registration numbers and any necessary redesign to show VAT as a separate line item. Establishment of a Government website listing which businesses can legitimately charge VAT (to stop scammers from illegally claiming they can add VAT to goods), together with the website offering the public a full explanation of the rules, rates and penalties. Employment of government VAT personnel, together with their education. Design and implementation of government accounting procedures manuals, premises to house staff, design, printing and distribution of relevant forms and websites. Setting up of Supervisory body with procedures to cover complaints, prosecution of offenders, chasing of unpaid taxes, together with reporting to the relevant ministry. Education of judges, lawyers, accountant, auditors in order to provide courts with qualified personnel to handle court cases.
The above are just off the top of my head, and were compiled as I was typing. Feel free to add your own
One can hear the desperation in Mr Myers voice as he pleads with government to share what data they have on VAT, but the simple fact is - Government has nothing, and is only being guided by its mysterious international masters.
As time passes I become more and more skeptical that anyone in government actually knows what is going on. Were we not promised the discussion papers "within two weeks" about three weeks ago ???
So the first statement of any usefulness from the Government is that we are on the slippery slope to increased taxes over and above VAT.
First they will say, as above, that business licence fees will not be decreased, then they will say that customs duties will not decrease, then as we get nearer to July 2014, they will no doubt say that VAT will increase from 15%..
I'm guessing that Mr Christie knows he will lose the next election in a landslide, so someone, somewhere is paying him an awful lot to keep tight lipped over this VAT farce
I know........ let's go for Spain next, seeing as Columbus wiped out all our true ancestors. And if that fails, then the leaders of the West African nations, who sold our forefathers to the slavers, then the French who colonised Haiti. Hmmmm, I'm panicking now.....come on - there must be somebody who will give us money for nothing
