It's not just government agencies that are confusing their customers and providing very poor service. Have you ever tried getting a real-life person to talk to when calling RBC? (especially bad at Palmdale branch). Their "new" numbers are an endless stream of automated voices and "press option xx" and when you do get through........"xxxxx is not available, please leave a message at the tone"
Imagine how happy I'd be if in my business I didn't have to pay my suppliers, and my sales became instant profit. It's a wonderful life when someone else i.e. taxpayers, take on all the bad loans.
I have all but given up using my post office box. Yesterday I received the **APRIL** electricity bill....thank goodness for online statements, where I can browse for phone, internet, cable, electric etc, or I would be one of the thousands of people who get cut off for non-payment. Oh, and anecdotally, a friend abroad knows about our useless post office and assures me she sent my July birthday card back in May (plenty of time, she foolishly thought) and of course, it still hasn't arrived.
How companies are coping, I have no idea. Yet another black eye for our "ease of doing business" index score. God forbid anyone should have anything of value sent to them by post.........
It has crossed my mind that E&Y will soon be in a position of conflict of interest, but this assumes that they have in the past done the audits of at least one governmental agency / corporation that will need a forensic audit. Maybe they didn't, knowing what they might open themselves up to. We shall see.
First, I would say that BOB's audited financials are "not worth the paper they are written on" due to the unregulated state of the Bank....no other financial institution would have been allowed to get away with what this shambles did. But, when you've got the ex-Governments and money launderers behind you, I guess you are given a free ride. E & Y did qualify the audit reports, meaning that they could not state categorically that the bank could be considered a going concern without continued massive funding / guarantees from the government
I'm not sure it's what you would call "fishy" in the case of the current forensic audits, more to do with the fact that Ernst &Young may be thought to be "cleaner" than the other big audit firms here. PwC had Ishmael Lightbourne (disgraced VAT czar) as a one-time partner, Deloitte sacked a partner for financial shennanigans, and the other smaller firms maybe do not have the manpower / expertise to carry out such lengthy and detailed forensic audits. In fairness, however, I should add that Mr Chipman is, or used to be, a partner at E&Y....so who knows !!!!
The time for revelations is drawing to a close. I think I speak for the vast majority of people when I say that NOW is the time for the law to decide that the punishments fit the crimes. We struggle every day to pay our bills (on time) whilst the "privileged elite" treated our national coffers as if they were their personal piggy bank. Enough talk - action now !!!
