Every time I look at the news today, our teachers are asking for money. I do not understand whey they are looking for money when our children come out of school not knowing how to read. I am of the opinion, that pay raises for teachers should be commensurate based on the level of the children they teach. There should be an independent evaluation, of the students. I do believe that teachers are part of the problem with our educational system now; the parents, government and the students themselves the rest of it. But this is a whole soup pot of dysfunction that has been going on for years.
Keeping people dumb to ensure a victory in an election is no longer kicking it, because those same dumb persons, are having children and so on. Who is teaching anyone, the teachers? Apparently not because our students still cannot read.
Your comments do not make any sense! Why should the officers kill themselves for ungrateful people, who are unwilling to help, assist or even give information that will help a case. That goes not only for the average citizen but also the business owners, who see things happening and are not willing to assist.
What is the use of having more courts if witnesses refuse to come and testify. The problem with witness tampering will not go away if witnesses refuse to stand up to the intimidation; reason that it has now gotten out of hand.W
Why should the officers have to work more than 40 hours, when no one else has too. You may see them as police who need to do their jobs, but they are human just like you and I. When they are out there, doing more than is required of them, and you are in your bed sleeping, who is there to take care of their families. Will it be you? NO!
The Bahamian people need to stop acting like criminals, that goes for all levels of society, and do what is best for this country. Otherwise they need to move to a different one and see how good it is compared to what others have to deal with.
I hope that you were not paying national insurance during the time you were off. If you were, and you paid your employer back, he made out because you already maid that sick leave contribution; when in fact you are not supposed to pay it when on sick leave.
What is not understood by many though is that, if you are on sick leave, national insurance is not supposed to come out of your salary; this is according to the NIB law. However, to make the payroll system efficient it still comes out every month, if you are on sick leave or not. So in essence you are are just contributing to your sick leave.
“The people of the Bahamas cannot afford to permit the PLP to play a game of chance with our future and that of generations that follow, especially while they are unwilling to make sacrifices themselves." I completely agree with this statement. However, I feel that it should be applied across the board. I am of the opinion that Income Tax should be implemented instead of VAT. Let the politicians and other rich people, mostly politicians, put their money where their mouths are. There should be brackets based on salary, wages, employment, etc; similar to the US system. When I can hear a politician put that on the table then I will begin to listen to what any of them have to say.
I have been made to understand that if a person tells the US they were born in the Bahamas that they send them here. There are no checks and balances to confirm this if a person makes this claim and so a person born in Haiti, Jamaica and elsewhere can end up in the Bahamas. The Bahamas most likely does not know about he deportations until after the persons get here.
The VAT system is a proven failure. The government need to implement Income Tax on single persons earning over $50,000 and married couples earning over $75,000 (with a percentage scale progression for earning intervals). This way these same politicians and millionaires in our country can be held accountable for the money the make (scam and steal) from us poor individuals.
I am by no means well off and I believe that this is the best solution for our country.
The reason Lamm got one year was because his case fell under the law before it was changed. Had the drugs been found after the law changed he could have gotten the four years. But I think if it had happened after the PLP came into power it would have been NOLLE!
We need to get this situation with Court reporters straightened out. I suggest we fire them and record the sessions for the Magistrate; make it legal for the recordings to be made of the proceeding - for only the Courts purposes. We can eliminate these lengthy delays.
