The gov. may own 80% of the physical land but taken out of context that means nothing. The majority of the prime land on the prime islands is in private hands, primarily the hands of wealthy foreigners. Facts. Nearly all the nice cays with harbours, elevation and vegetation (in Abaco, Bimini and Exuma) are owned by foreigners. So much of the elevated coppice land and coastal land is also privately owned throughout the northern parts of the country. Yeh the gov. has thousands of acres of pine barren on the large islands and land in the southern Bahamas, where there is little rain, little soil and shows no sign of being a place where people want to invest or live.
Decriminalise Marijuana and install CCTV in certain areas. That would help.
I don't agree with Tal's "zero gun" suggestion. When was the last time someone was murdered with a licensed shotgun? I would go so far as to say it hasn't happened in decades. Most murders happen with unlicensed guns in the hands of thugs who would not get approval if they applied for a gun license. Besides, there are too many illegal guns on the streets now it would be near impossible to get rid of them let alone prevent them from coming back in through our borders. If we took away the guns from police officers and license holders the criminals would be unstoppable.
This decision goes to show just how vitally important an independent judiciary is to our democracy and the future of our country. Well done Justice Bain.
Are people really falling for this BS? The RBDF is a joke and I've experienced it first hand at sea. The only fisheries that improved last year was crawfish. Nothing else. There is still a drastic decline in reef fish and conch throughout the Bahamas.
The crawfish season was good for reasons entirely separate from poaching. We don't have Dominican poachers up in the Little Bahama bank and it was still one of the best seasons in a long time up there. Explain that? The truth is that crawfish numbers fluctuate in natural cycles and this year was just a good year.... but Perry is trying to credit for it lol
What about all of the illegal foreign fishing that continues unabated in Abaco/Bimini/West End etc from Americans coming over and spearfishing? They haven't done anything to stop it and probably never will.
he has every right to earn a living yes, but dont you think it fishy that the gov. awarded a former plp minister the contract? That's the problem with this country and this sums it all up. Here we have an example of a crony contract which ended up in a terrible job done and a waste of money. They probably could have given the contract to one of the many creative artistic people in this country who would have surely done a much better job.. but no.. let's give it to our boy former minister. It looks terrible.
The majority of Little Harbour residents, and Abaconians in general, don't want the port. It's not like our opinions and concerns matter to the developers or the gov. persons responsible for its approval. When have they ever?
Fitzgerald is delusional and should be ashamed for attending a protest that essentially targeted him and his fellow PLP members. 99% of those people were protesting against decisions made by the PLP government. That is the fact of the matter. We want a Freedom of Information Act, We say no Chinese fishing, we want the gov. to stop selling our land and sea to everyone. We are tired of the corruptness and lack of transparency that has pervaded nearly every action the PLP has taken. We see our country going down the drain, financially, socially, environmentally.. you name it. That was what the protest was against. It wasn't a Pro-FNM protest, but it definitely was an Anti-PLP protest.
