Our tax system is a joke. It's discouraging growth and hindering business and fostering corruption and bribery. It targets the honest man and allows crooks and evaders to succeed.

If the gov. actually focused on enforcing existing laws and regulations they probably wouldn't feel the need to keep on creating new ones and finding new ways to get money. The article says they failed to collect $108 million of real property taxes in one year? That's a fair sum of cash.

Meanwhile countries are realising the detriments of cruise ship ports yet our country is hell bent on selling every island and developing every part of the country... all in return for a few pennies in comparison. What benefits will GB get from this really? Why put it out east? A few construction jobs in short term and a few waiters and bartenders? Is it worth all the damage?

No one denies that we need FDI - but we need the right kind of FDI. We need investments that are in line with a development model that is sustainable- in terms of their impacts on the environment, the future of the economy and the bahamian way of life.

Also, the private sector would be far more productive and creative if the government enabled it to do so. Instead, competition is thwarted by gov. constantly handing out crony contracts, and by taxes and red tape that is preventing the kind of growth and entrepreneurial spirit we need. Add the fact that education sucks and you have a perfect recipe for sluggish growth in the private sector.

Furthermore, It's not like Bahamians do not try. What about all the crown land applications made by bahamians for various agricultural and other ventures that have been denied...

So, yes, Bahamians are pissed off when they see that our gov. considers giving our fishing and agriculutural rights to the Chinese who have a bad track record in the exploitation of developing countries resources.

He is desperately trying to save face.. classic response from Christie when under fire.. "well.. I may have screwed up, and will probably continue to screw up, but the other party has screwed up too so let's talk about that instead!!"

Give us a break Christie. You're not fooling anyone. No one wants this deal and you have given far more power to the Chinese than the FNM has.. furthermore, you have had the opportunity to learn from mistakes and not make them again..

I find it interesting that most of the young bahamians who went away to school in China, who now speak chinese, and who are now getting involved in various ways... support the PLP. Why do you think that is?

Quails or Pheasants do not live in the same habitat as parrots which live in holes in the ground in the pineyards and feed in the coppice land. Quails live in grassland and "edge" habitats.

"There could be no way that this minister of this government would give foreigners...a license to fish in the Bahamas".. Then why is the draft proposal called the "China-Bahamas agriculture and fisheries initiative"? Why is the word "fisheries" included if it wasn't something he is open to? Stop telling lies Gray.

In a time when we should be cutting DOWN on our fishing exports rather than increasing them, in a time when we should be looking to capitalise on our fisheries without harming our cultural heritage and tourism industry...here comes people like Mr. Gray who is open to the idea of exporting vast amounts of seafood to the Chinese to provide liquidity and cashflow for other Chinese investments.. which all stem from the desperate need for money...which further stems from poor decisions that this gov. has made. It's clear as day.

Just look at what he's done since he's been Minister - Either he doesn't give a shit about our environment or he is absolutely clueless as to the state of our environment and fisheries ("bey we got lone fish"). Or both.

Just because they might not give licenses to actual Chinese people to be on boats fishing our waters, doesn't mean they aren't open to Bahamians fishing for them instead - just like the proposal states. That's how they would screw us. They'll get Bahamians to fish for the Chinese in a China-Bahamas partnership that exports seafood to China and then claim that he never lied because no Chinese people are on the boats doing the fishing. He'll claim it as a "Bahamians first" type of deal. Gray is one of the biggest national security threats to this country. He's a terrible lawyer, politician and he's as crooked as they come. Plus, he's as dumb as a brick. Anyone who's ever dealt with him can attest to that.

China State owned corporations will soon own the entire country.. we should have laws designed to prevent that sort of economic and political influence.. or leaders with sense.. one or the other

Private companies and wealthy individuals owning all our major assets is one thing.. but to have another gov. own them and be able to exercise so much control over the future of the country is unwise..
