They don't want to introduce LGBT rights though...
And yes, those other things you listed are also a cause for despair, but the difference here is that we, the Bahamian public, screwed it up ourselves. We cannot directly blame the government this time... We took it upon ourselves to deny men and women equal rights in this country and for that reason I am ashamed and embarrassed. The referendum result is indicative of, and connected to, our other problems. I guess it is the gov.'s fault in a way... the PLP were the ones responsible for the destruction of the education system in this country after independence when they sought to "bahamianise" the education system by replacing the British model with the current system - a system, by the way, that has been getting progressively worse ever since.
Its crazy that we are even having this debate. All the pastors and community leaders who promoted the NO vote and made this referendum about something it is not, should be ashamed of themselves. And the government should be ashamed of itself for lowing our education system to fall into such disrepair that the Bahamian public could be so easily persuaded and misguided.
They will be back again poaching the southern banks in no time.. they might even be back in that same boat! Pretty disgraceful. I applau the RBDF on apprehending this vessell, but at the same time I know this stuff is going on all year round with many more boats doing it. They need to get them all and send a serious message.
The legislation is a joke. It is designed to benefit a few individuals with special interests and personal agendas....and no one else. That is how our country is being run nowadays. They don't look at the long term implications of their decisions, and they care for little else but themselves.
Fly-fishing plays an important role in the Bahamian economy.... particularly in those parts of the Family Islands where more traditional forms of employment (the "9 to 5") and ways of bringing revenue to the community are harder to come by. Most of the people that come down to fish the flats have money, and are willing to spend it on groceries, food/drink, guides, lodging etc. Great relationships have been formed between foreign flats fisherman and local guides/communities - relationships that have brought opportunities to Bahamians that would have never existed otherwise. Plus, fly-fishing is relatively sustainable - it's catch n release!
Why on earth would the gov. want to potentially destroy that? It makes no sense... Just so people like Prescott Smith can play the tired old "white man/foreign man stealing our jobs" card, rather than coming to terms with the fact that other people, who may or may not be foreigners, run better lodges than him? Hmm... I know what to do - let's force every visitor to choose a bahamian flats guide whether they want to or not!!! That will ensure that we make money every time!! lol.. some people will cut off their nose to spite their face.
Where are you getting these convoluted ideas from? You sound like one of those nutty conspiracy theorists!
For one, why would the government want to "obscure" the sexual identity between males and females? What exactly does that even entail? What purpose would that serve? What are the benefits? Please don't give me some BS about a global elitist conspiracy to usher in an era of transgender tyranny!! Next thing you'll be saying that the world is ruled by lizard people! It seems to me that you are implying that we, the Bahamian citizenry, are too STUPID to know that he is a man, and she is a women, and that we can only arrive at such a conclusion if our constitution remains the way it is. Is this what you are saying? Or perhaps you simply don't want women to have the same constitutional rights as men? Who knows..
Second, what does all that other nonsense about Greece, North Carolina (Lol), refugees in Europe, the use of public toilets, and the sex of infants at birth have to do with our referendum?! Maybe the gov. should be more focused on enforcing our drug laws because you are clearly high as a kite!! You are trying to connect dots that cannot be connected! I have to laugh at your comment though. My favourite line was "This means transgenders now have more rights than heterosexual persons since they can now use any restroom" Hahaha With all the shit that is going on in the world, and in this country, you are more concerned about whether a chick with a d**k decides to use the male or female toilet!
The referendum is about equal rights between men and women. Not about gays or transexuals. Not about immigration. Not about girl scouts and boy scouts converging together to create a transgender scout or anything else of that nature.
You are living in la la land with your crazy, farfetched conspiracies about "they" want to eliminate difference between men and women"; "they" want to attack social norms by the promotion of same sex marriage and feminist ideology", and so forth. First of all, who the hell is "they"?
The bills are simple. It's about giving women equal rights as men. It's about allowing a bahamian women to pass on her citizenship in the same way a bahamian man can. Your outlandish claims may fool certain ignorant sections of our society but anyone with half a brain can see straight through it.
I can't believe that there are educated people in this country, some with positions of power, who are saying that these bills will pave the way for same-sex marriage and all sorts of other nonsense. It has nothing at all to do with that, and they know it. Some people simply do not want women to have the same rights as men. Women are not regarded as equals by a large section of people in our society and that is the simple fact of the matter.
