Wait till oil prices rise again. Electricity will be higher than it ever was before. These fellas haven't done a thing to decrease the cost of electricity. They are just riding on the coat-tail of something that they have zero influence over.
He spent quite a bit of time trying to clear his name and promote himself, but that's understandable. I agree with the rest of what he said about change, and seeing past political boundaries to invoke such change.
I think all Bahamians should consider pursuing their higher education in the UK (or elsewhere in Europe). It was the best decision I ever made. The people you meet, and the things you will be exposed to are just incomparable to the experience you will have in the US. Let's face it, culture in the USA is.... well.... pretty non-existent. So, if you're looking at cultural enrichment as a part of your university experience I would suggest you look further afield. Plus, university in the UK is relatively cheaper and better. A degree from the UK is also highly regarded in the US if you ever do consider pursuing a career closer to home. Finally, the rest of Europe is right next door just waiting to be explored. It's a no-brainer in my opinion.
Downsides: horrible weather; further from home; high cost of living (especially London); may take time adjusting (as with everywhere). Advantages: good education and degree options, cheaper university tuition, cheap tickets to rest of Europe, culture, history and generally a more fulfilling experience.
I went to university "across the pond". Best thing I ever did. Quite a few Bahamians are over there now, but as an overall percentage of Bahamian students abroad I would think the number has dropped over the last couple of decades. Personally, I connect more with the British mentality and culture than I do with the Americans (The Bahamas has become too Americanised if you ask me). Also, university in Britain is cheaper, generally better, and let's not forget that the rest of Europe is right there waiting to be explored. I suggest every Bahamian consider applying to the UK for their higher education. The things you will be exposed to, and the people you will meet over there, cannot be rivalled in the US. .... just my opinion.
People need to stop playing this off as the "battle of the billionaires" causing havoc in this country. The problem is with Nygard, and the PLP. Bacon did not start this mess, neither has he gone to such extremes as Nygard in trying to further his interests. I simply do not accept the rhetoric that portrays Bacon in the same light as Nygard. The two men are incomparable.
Now we have Pintard resigning... and the PLP pointing at that as if that is proof of FNM guilt and PLP innocence. C**k suckers. No one in the PLP will resign because they don't have the courage and integrity to do so. Brave Davis is a gangster of the highest order... you will never see him wilfully resign, even if he knows it is the right thing to do. They should put Nygard and Davis in a cell together. The corruption in this country has reached boiling point. The chickens are coming home to roost finally.
This is BS on so many levels. Aside from the shady reasons for China giving us money to spend on military equipment, why in the hell are they spending it on tear gas, and anti-riot grenade launchers and the sort of things that can be used against us Bahamians? What about all the illegal immigrants and drugs coming in from the south? Or what about the dominican pirate fisherman who are stealing our natural resources at an incredible rate? Surely our Defence Force should be focusing on the real issues at hand?! The PLP has the lost the plot. They have got their priorities all F^$%^ up and China has got them by the balls.
