The centre needs a massive upgrade no doubt about that but we have a other facilities that need it more. Stop the inhumane treatment to detainees. Polish up the image asap. Not for the international community but for our own national sense of pride and integrity. All else will fall into place.

I find that so many young people lack basic comprehension skills. They do not understand so much of what they hear (they don't read). They also lack any desire to learn anything new (or just anything). They have no interest in anything. They just gossip and whats app and watch reality TV. It is shocking the level of ignorance. I wonder where we will be in 5 /10 years. What will happen. And theses ignorant young people are very fruitful...they multiply. This is real cause for alarm.

The Bahamas is not considered third world and I wish people would stop saying this. The Bahamas is considered Developing World

You can watch the movie online for free a month later (DVD quality). I only go to the movies for the big block busters. But it is $10 and $12 in the US. The consession counter is outrageous however

On Cinema tickets up by more than rate of VAT

What planet you from?

Here is a prime example of other cultures in the Caribbean influencing and shaping what is considered Bahamain culture today. Maureen a Haitian Bahamian singing a Trinidadian song becomes the iconic "Bahama Mama' I would say the end result was positive wouldn't you. So why are we so afraid of these same influences today?

Agreed

I am of Trinidadian desent and lived there for a good portion of my life. I love Carnival (as all good Trinis do) When This Junkanoo Carnival was first proposed I was all in favour. I listened to and read comments by people for and against the idea. I considered the negative feedback just another example of Bahamian xenophobia. I saw no real harm in having this festival and t be honest I am still in favour. However after reading your article for the first time I am able to see this issue from another perspective and it is certainly food for thought. I have begun to look at this more objectively and started to put my Trini love for Carnival aside and truely examine this debate.
Excellent atricle, well written.

Eventually all of this corruption will come to a head (as it has done in other parts of the world) Prepare yourselves, it may take a while but the worst is yet to come.
