I recall purchasing items in Trinidad a few years ago and the VAT was conspicuous, it was a separate line item. Even the Kentucky Fried Chicken had a VAT--a separate line item. On line items purchased from the UK (books) have a VAT (recent purchase). Again, separate line item.

Ms. Day's response is unacceptable. First, she did not know where The Bahamas is located and second she fabricated the information. This incident reminds me of the New York Times Magazine incident with Mr. Jayson Blair.
With regards to Ministry of Tourism, should we advertise on a Website where the authors' submission are not checked? The simpliest Internet research would have debunked this fictional story. I doubt that this article is the first article Ms. Day has presented as "research based" but is mere fiction.

Hubert Ingram was running a country. Mr. Bethel was organizing the campaingn for the 202 election. Based on the results, why should anyone vote for Mr. Bethel and his deputy?

"Ignite the Future" is an excellent theme. Now the FNM needs continue its presence in the community (especially the seats they lost.) Perhaps, a meeting every six months to hear what the people have to say. They neet to ignite the future!

PM Christie is trapped. Careful, "a coyote or fox will gnaw its paw off if caught in a trap".

"A nation for sale" was under Pindling administration. The more recent international scandals under the first Christie administration can be called "rake'n and scrap'n with the stars!"

Bril, you wrote "All I ask is that our politicians be honourable and resign when you've messed up. Writing it on paper as a code means nothing to me. Simple, if yah mess up pack up your marbles and move on and if you refuse to move on the PM needs to have the balls to fire you and be quick about it." Take a look at our present government.
As George Santayana, Philosopher, wrote these famous words:
"Those who cannot learn from history are doomed to repeat it.
Those who do not remember their past are condemned to repeat their mistakes.
Those who do not read history are doomed to repeat it.
Those who do not know history's mistakes are doomed to repeat them."

The current Act is inadequate. New legislations must be in place before drilling begins.
By the way, Trinidad has been trying to tap into the millions of barrels of oil in its waters. After years of failure to find commercial quantity of oil or gas (20 years+) a new company was awarded the contract -- British Petroleum. The speech from the throne cannot overlook this issue.

I disagree, the church is about ethics. But, I think that we are closing the barn door after the horses have bolted. The code of ethics should be at two levels (1) a standard at the party level - screening of candidates before they are elected and (2) a code of behaviour at the government level (upper & lower house). In the meantime, the platinum rule applies "do to others as you would have others do to you".

Mr. Cooper, Trinidad and Tobago (TT) has land oil rigs. TT is still searching for commercial quantities of oil in deep water (1,000 meters). Source : TT Minister of Energy and Energy Affairs, Kevin Ramnarine (5/18/2012).
Apparently oil is being found throughout the Caribbean, from French Guiana in the south to The Bahamas in the north?? How will this abundance affect the price of oil?

The Progressive Liberal Party refers to the former BTC as its "cash cow". During the election there was a call to re-negotiate the CW deal. In addition, there was a lot of talk about Bahamians owning the resources. Will the PLP government (stop and review) want to nationalize BPC (ask for 51%)?
