The things done by Mr.Pintard in his constituency is commendable However in most advanced countries that is done by elected local government officials. Both of the major political parties do not want that. As for transformational leadership n the Bahamas, there is very few. The Bahamas despite it's economic success, is years behind in many aspects of it's overall development
That is a touchy subject. Bahamian women have long ago surpassed men here in academics and in certain fields of employment here. Male underachievement is not studied much or discussed much here. A white bahamian said this some time ago, Sociology as a science is not studied widely in the country like in other Caribbean countries.
The well-known realtor Mario Carey suggested using distressed properties some time ago. He and some persons said that about four years ago.Sensible progressive ideas in public policy take years to take shape in the Bahamas. The same thing with public transportation, education ,renewable energy, local government and urban development
The parliament of the Bahamas is not functioning. Side-lining of this committee is not helping the situation. The permanent secretaries should go before the PAC and give account of the spending in their ministries.
This idea has been around for a number of years. Somebody said this to me, he doesn't understand why the government is so hell-bent on building houses. They are numerous re-possessed homes and mortgages in distress on this island and in Grand Bahama. There is no attempt by the people in positions of power to understand and solve these problems
Despite what is taught and believe here, the Bahamas has very unsophisticated financial market. a A person said to me that it is almost primitive. It also behind in it's development behind some of tt's caribbean counterparts including Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago.
Why can't politicians in this country be transparent and answer questions? Some of those plates were given as political patronage. The FNM did it also. Despite all of those taxis on the road, service is generally not provided to local residents. They mainly ply their trade in the tourism market. That is why there are so many vehicles on this small island. Neither the PLP nor FNM while in power has any interest in creating a modern public transit system on this island. The result is that quality of life on this island suffers from the lack of it.
A select committee on illegal immigration could be a good thing. If given cooperation,it would allow the public to see the scope of this problem. Illegal immigration to this country is not only Haitians. They are simply the largest and most visible group.
Persons on both sides of the political divide have benefited from it. I very well remembered a well -known lawyer politician who represented a well -known family. They owned the property on which a large shanty town was located on. He did not disclose their name when he was on a morning talk show.
There is a need for a massive civic and Bahamian history education campaign here. Bahamians don't understand or know about their system of governance, how it functions and their system of taxation. Nobody here seems to know what is in the constitution except for lawyers and some politicians. Most people just simply repeat political and religious propaganda That is seen every day in the social media posts and the calls to talk radio.
The situation could have been handled better by the police. They need to be more professional with better training to deal with demonstrators. However Bain is simply a populist demagogue.
