A select committee on illegal immigration could be a good thing. If given cooperation,it would allow the public to see the scope of this problem. Illegal immigration to this country is not only Haitians. They are simply the largest and most visible group.

Persons on both sides of the political divide have benefited from it. I very well remembered a well -known lawyer politician who represented a well -known family. They owned the property on which a large shanty town was located on. He did not disclose their name when he was on a morning talk show.

There is a need for a massive civic and Bahamian history education campaign here. Bahamians don't understand or know about their system of governance, how it functions and their system of taxation. Nobody here seems to know what is in the constitution except for lawyers and some politicians. Most people just simply repeat political and religious propaganda That is seen every day in the social media posts and the calls to talk radio.

The situation could have been handled better by the police. They need to be more professional with better training to deal with demonstrators. However Bain is simply a populist demagogue.

Tyler Technologies was contacted to modernize the real property tax system. Their work was set back when the Minnis administration terminated their contract. Of course ,the Minnis administration had to restart the project and re-engage Tyler Technologies. The reason you don't have a proper land registry in this country is the resistance of certain elements of the Bar Association

Both major political parties play the cynical game with the public. When in opposition they call for transparency. When they are in government, they are very secretive.

This is the same theatrical performance the PLP Is also put on. Like the commentator Flying Fish said, this is not the Westminster system of government,we have in the Bahamas. You can watch the Canadian and British parliaments question times and you will see the difference. Bahamians love power and control and don't understand governance and management.

This report is simply stating what has been known by certain persons in this country. The Bahamas has had problems with it's education system for decades. The Bahamas has had unsatisfactory results from it's education system for years. There are problems in this system from primary to tertiary level of education.

The IDB did a report years ago stating that many young men on the island of New Providence were not graduating from high school.A relative of mine told me what a prominent person told him.The Bahamian secondary school system is inferior and behind both the Barbadian and St.Lucian secondary school system.

Add to that ,there is a huge brain drain from this country. A young person told a PLP politician this at a meeting at St.Thomas university in Florida. The Bahamas is not an attractive country to return, to live and work .I know a lady who's son went to university in Canada. She told me ,he has not returned to the Bahamas.Since he graduated about eight years, he has lived and work in Canada.

Congratulations to Shaunae and her husband Maicel. The child will be an Estonian citizen at birth. The citizenship laws relating to Bahamian women who have foreign spouses should have been changed decades ago.

@ This is Ours. This current political system is the Westminister system, which we got from the British. It is the same system they are currently using in the United Kingdom.

The main modes of taxation in this country are consumption based, customs duties and vat The burden of taxation in this country falls disproportionately on the backs of the people who are least able to pay. That is what a person who has a bit of understanding of economics told me. The Bahamas has a major political management and governance problems. However this system has to change so people pay taxes based on their ability to pay.It is simply common sense and sound economic principles
