All of those persons involved in this situation should have been terminated. They also should be sued so BPL could recover the monies they were paid. The individual who made the decision to make them permanent and pensionable should be questioned. If that person knew about this situation, they should be disciplined.
I think nothing will really come of this sorry situation. That is how things are done in this country. The taxpayers will simply bear this burden unfortunately.
The Bahamian economy at the present time is merely a small extension of the American economy. It is based on american consumption in tourism, real estate sales and development and some financial services. The financial services sector in the Bahamas has been shrinking and withering away since the early 2000's.
There has been little effort to move beyond the Harold Christie/Stafford Sands model. In fact, other countries in the caribbean have copied it. Cuba which went back into tourism in the mid nineties and Donald Trump's reversal of the Obama administration normalization of ties was getting around 3 million stop-over tourism per year. More Canadians visit Cuba and the Dominican Republic than come to the Bahamas. There is more linkage between the local Jamaican economy and their hotel industry than what we have in the Bahamas. At some level levels of development, Jamaica is years ahead of the Bahamas.
Like somebody said, all Cov-19 did, was expose what was there and Bahamians refuse to see.

This occurrence is widespread throughout the government corporations and civil service. This gentleman should be sued for the fraud he did and those funds recovered from him and those workers.
The workers should also be terminated also. This has gone on for years in this country.
The creditors have the right to collect this debt. That excuse is non-sensical.
However behind this story, is the issue of ' crony capitalism. The Bahamas at times operate like the Philippines under Marcos and Indonesia under Suharto.
Congrats to the President -Elect Joe Biden. The third time is a charm.
Congrats to Vice-President -Elect Kamala Harris. She represents something that has aided and driven development in the United States, immigration. A father who is an economist from Jamaica and a mother who was a researcher from India. The browning of America. Also a white JJewish husband.
Mr.Trump please concede defeat and leave office with some grace. Jimmy Carter and George H.W. Bush did it.
The Bahamas had since 1962 to prepare for the opening of Cuba. That is how long the embargo has been in place. Cuba is no threat to the United States. President Obama realized that.
President Trump is a disgrace. A bigot, narcissistic serial liar. He should simply concede defeat and prepare to leave office.
