The island of Mayaguana has a population of less than 300 persons.Merging those schools was a sensible and cost- effective decision.
This decision should not be a political issue. One of the problems we face and don't discuss here in the Bahamas is the uneven development of this country.Since the seventies, there has been a drift away from the islands in the south-east Bahamas except Inagua. Those islands may come close to being depopulated in the future.
Ivan Johnson, owner and publisher of the Punch tabloid was the first Bahamian professional cricket player. He played professionally in England in the seventies.
Sir Orville Turnquest and Sir Franklyn Wilson have been business partners since the mid-seventies.They have been in numerous business ventures together.
Arawak Homes,FOCOL and now this Jack's Bay venture. Tommy Turnquest is merely representing his father and family's interest in this venture. It was the late Sir Lynden Pindling who suggested this partnership,I was told. This is not the first heads of agreement signed for this project. The media should ask what the first agreement had in it.Also what new conditions and concessions are in this new agreement.
The media here in the Bahamas don't ask questions. They do a poor job in keeping the average Bahamian informed of what is going on in this country.
Bahamians who live on New Providence are blissfully ignorant and unaware of the situation in Abaco.I have seen persons persons on social media complaining about the break -ins and thefts since hurricane Dorian.A second home owner there said the constant thefts is affecting his ability to rebuild his home.
That decision to not charge those demonstrators should have been made by the director of public prosecutions. That is why this FNM government passed a law to make this position independent and take that power from the attorney general.
The commissioner should not make that position. This is one of the reasons we are in this mess in this country.Persons usurp positions and power within this government structure.
Bahamians don't talk about the bahamians living aboard. There are quite a few Bahamians living and making a good living in first world countries.
I know of a bahamian lady who had some funds wired to her from aboard. She used those funds to pay bills and buy groceries.
Bahamian history is not taught in the Bahamas There was a time when bahamian workers on the contract use to send moneys home to the Bahamas. That money was used to support families here..An elderly relative told me he worked as an agricultural worker in West Virginia in the fifties. He use to send home money to his mother also every week.
This is a stunning change.A week ago a strict lockdown without persons getting access to food, water and medicines.
Now this.Virtually reopening some sectors of the economy. Was the data that initial decision made on, riddled with mistakes? What changed within the week? The number of persons who died from COV-19 doubled overnight,The press did not seem to mention that. Also the recoveries have increased dramatically. Are these recoveries been verified by medical professionals? This speaks to the competencies of many persons.
COV-19 is still out there.Bahamians will have to take responsibility to prevent its'spread and transmission.
Dr.Minnis 's advisors are not making him look bad.He is doing that by himself.
He does not readily take advice. He does not understand the impact of the decisions he makes. Some of his decisions are made without consultation of his cabinet ministers.Last week's lockdown was just a next one of them. The vat rate in 2018 was a next one.
He will survive in this climate. The opposition party is discredited. He retains the support of the party and most of the media in the Bahamas. But like an academic said,he does not understand public policy, governance and the economy.
