The entire education system in this country needs to be revamped. However Bahamians by in large don't value education. In this tourism based economy, you don't have to be highly educated or skilled to make a big living. This coupled with the rampant cronyism, nepotism, favouritism and victimization in the job market is driving the migration of educated bahamians. Like some one said on a local talk show recently, every body in his circle wants to leave the Bahamas. Some one also wrote this on social media ,the Bahamas may become a place where people visit and Bahamians don't want to live.

There have appointments to the bench that has called into the question the independence of the judicial legal services committee. Those appointments seem to reek of political favouritism.

Phillip Davis will never be the prime minister of the Bahamas in my opinion .Dr.Minnis performance as prime minister is horrible but Brave Davis will be worse.

This is what happens when both political parties are close shops. They are controlled by party insiders.Leaders are selected for other reasons than intelligence, charisma and knowledge.

A lot of persons who studied and lived aboard,if they return to the Bahamas are increasingly frustrated by the political system here.

What the auditor general disclose has been going on for some time.

This is nothing new.

The Tribune had a story in the last Ingraham administration about the theft of funds from the court system on the island of Grand Bahama. They did not call the name of the judicial official involved. But somebody who knew about it told me who the person was.The person was simply transferred and never prosecuted. The current attorney general Bethel was the AG then also.

We protect our friends in this country. That how we roll in this country.Bahamians love to play brand new.

What he is saying is partially true. The increase in vat collection is primarily due to vat now being collected on real estate transactions. There was a huge amount collected on the sale of the refinery in Grand Bahama.

When you take those into account, vat collection is actually lower than last year this same period. The media here in the Bahamas don't do much investigative journalism nor do any analysis of data. They don't even know which questions to ask.

Lowe's Pharmacy are selling their reusable bags for $ 1.00 plus vat.

Suntee's are selling theirs for $1.00 plus vat.

SuperValue are selling theirs for $1.29 plus vat.

Aliv and the Ministry of Housing and the Environment at one time were giving them away for free.

I am sure most persons can afford a $1.12 bag.

Bahamians can be difficult at times.Like some one said to me,there is widespread resistance in this country to progressive changes.

A proper recycling program should be part of the garbage collection system in the Bahamas.A relative of mine experience it when visiting her daughter who lives in Canada. The Canadians took recycling very seriously. There is no reason for aluminum cans, tin cans and certain metals to be dumped in the garbage dump. They should be recycled.Like someone said to me,any sensible progressive idea take years to come to the Bahamas.

On It's time to get serious about recycling

This ban on single use plastic bags has reveal several things.

Governments in the Bahamas go aboard and sign various agreements committing the Bahamas to various things. This is why this ban came in to place this January. The media does a poor job here explaining things.

Despite the political propaganda, the Bahamas is way behind in its.development.Wait until Bahamians have to separate their garbage. That has been done for well over thirty years in Canada and the UK.

There is a huge class divide on New Providence. It is seen on social media when some persons were discussing this ban.Persons who question the ban, were called by other persons dumb and d-average.Some persons felt that they could not afford to constantly pay for plastic bags.

Wide spread resistance to positive change.Sensible, progressive ideas take years to come to the Bahamas.

It is becoming tiresome.Just run to press with story of the PLP improprieties in office. No action seems to be taken to address it. Like somebody said to me,this is just maybe distraction or deflection.

BONEFISH says...

So the prime minister is now a prophet or seer.He could be right. As poor as he is performing, the PLP party is not seen as a viable alternative to this government.
