The Bahamas needs journalists and not people who write down any foolishness that comes out of the politicians mouths. Both the REU and the property tax modernization.they meet in place in 2017.They were stopped and the contracted staff sent home.A year later,Johnson and Turnquest realize we need these things. So they restart them. This is why the Bahamas is in the state it is today,Dumb ,stupid decisions by persons unsuited for their position.
i just smile at this suggestion.Hubert Ingraham when he was prime minister and the minister of finance made a comment. He presented a budget in the house. He said the accounting firms in Jamaica,Barbados and Trinidad would provide a free analysis of their's countries budget. The accounting firms here should be doing that also. But this is the Bahamas. This is also a subtle way to campaign.
This study should have done from the nineties.New Providence needed a unified public transportation system from the fifties.Bermuda with all of it's twenty one square miles has one. This country is so far behind in many instances.
The island of New Providence needs a safe reliable public bus system. What we have now on this island is chaos. The entire ground transportation system on this island and indeed this country needs to be reformed. That includes private vehicles, company vehicles, taxis, jitneys, limos tour buses, town cars and self-drive vehicles. This situation has been allowed to fester for years under successive governments and have gotten worse.
The lack of affordable housing is just one of the many ills of this country. It is also contributing to the brain drain from the Bahamas. Many tertiary educated Bahamians can't survive and live a decent life in this country on these stagnant wages and these outrageous land and housing prices.
Constantly re-inventing the wheel. There was a unit set up by former commissioner to target profilic offenders. What ever happen to that? The journalists need to ask questions and do some investigations. They need to simply stop printing officials' statements.
Mr.Hartnell, you need to ask questions about Tyler Technologies. The company was abruptly terminated by the duo of Johnson and Turnquest. Then they realize they need the company to complete the modernization of the real property unit.Let Mr.Johnson tell you what the cost to complete the project was.The cost pales to their cost now. This is the same thing that happen to the REU unit, they meet in place. This is why this country is the way it is,because of dumb, stupid decisions made by people in authority.

A good article. When I went to school,Bahamian history was not really taught.I also wondered what life was like in this country before independence.
