The problem of issuance of fake driving licences have plagued the bahamas for years. There was an attempt to upgrade the RTD with a loan from the IDB.That was over ten years ago. That was resisted by the RTD management. The minister in charge of RTD,Glenys Hanna Martin did not back the project nor her PS in that ministry. The inaction of politicians and senior civil servants have costed some people their lives

I meant to say I support some of it.

Correction. The old Independence Shopping Center is not owned by the bahamas government. That property is owned by Scott Godet of Scottsdale Bedding. Why won't the press do some real investigating and find out why that project was really terminated?

Also what you see in the Bahamas, increasingly is the transfer of public assets to private management.I suppose some of it.But it will enrich a select group of people in this town.No doubt about that.

This should have been done a while back. For a country who depends on it environment for its limain industry, the Bahamas is far behind in waste management.

This is simply the NAD model at work. The transfer of public assets to private management. For a country whose main industry is tourism,Bahamian history is not much on display or part of it.Many of the historical sites are run down and shabby in appearance. In my opinion at the moment, the old city of Nassau can't compete with the old city of Havana and the colonial zone of Santo Domingo.

NIB is in all kinds of problems. The FNM government discontinue the practice of getting a letter of good standing from NIB to get a business licence renewal. That was the chief method of getting compliance to pay NIB from some businesses.Sometimes you can't throw the baby out with the bath water.

There is an outcry about this dumping of sewerage in Bahamian waters. In a few weeks, this will fade away.In the Bahamas, the contest between jobs and the environment, jobs always win. A journalist basically said that. Also foreign investors know Bahamians better than Bahamians know themselves.

This is good news. The revival of the sponging industry can really help Andros and other family islands. Not every one wants to live on New Providence.

A real manpower audit of the civil service needs to be done. There are departments and agencies of the government that are understaffed yet the civil service is overstaffed at the same time.I was told this by some one in the know. The PLP were hiring persons on contract to avoid them becoming permanent and pensionable. This seems to be the trend in quite a number of companies in this country.
