It's official...he's on some sort of illicit drugs...LSD maybe...maybe he's tweaking out on meth. Economic growth...HA!! Businesses nationwide are already slowing down their buying and trimming their stock in preparation of the VAT disaster that is pending. Businesses threatening to close altogether. The honest businessman will get shafted again while the others that do not play by the rules, continue to get away with dodging customs fees, not paying property taxes, not paying NIB, etc, etc. If VAT becomes reality July 1st, the economy will TANK and crime will spike as people won't be able to afford their rent or their food.
Actually Sheeprunner, you are not...you do not have to have your drivers license or insurance papers on you...not in the Bahamas anyways...elsewhere in the world yes. You have 24-48 hours to present your documents at the booking police station.
Also gives them extraordinary powers to raid businesses and get into their books and financials. All that info will likely be reported back to other government agencies and potentially even other countries who are trying to link funds back to their homeland tax system.
Funny...if you ask people on Mr. Rolle's team point blank a specific question regarding VAT...they don't even know the answer...they usually come back with something to the effect that we haven't discussed that yet, or we haven't made a decision on that yet...or we will have to get back to you. Experts my backside!!
Cutting edge!! Now that is one of the funniest things I have heard in a long time!! Ask Mr. Rolle how well the cutting edge technology roll out has been going for the Customs department. eCAS proves to be more troublesome than it is worth more often than not. You can still clear a shipment faster the old fashioned paper method. What was the final count on businesses that will need to provide and do the reporting and VAT collection...all those businesses need to marry seamlessly with their 'cutting edge' VAT technology...but wait...we as the businesses impacted by it, have yet to have had any discussion on the technology side, whatsoever. It's queuing up to be a disaster of epic proportions.
From what I understand, they were going to put up more timeshares in that space where the plaza was, but then the economy took a downturn so the plans were scrapped before they broke ground on the rebuild.
