What about the Lucayans? They too were enslaves and worse, slaughtered! With DNA advances, we could track their ancestors still living in the Southern Caribbean and give the whole country back to them. All other ethnic populations can in turn return to their countries of origin in Europe, Africa, etc. All happy now?
This is an embarrassment to our country! Imagine the implications of this nonsense if one could connect a couple of Long Islanders to Lucayans! How ridiculous, but more importantly how sad that this is all we have to offer the World after 40 years of independence. Even Pindling would have cringed at such a suggestion. Is it too late for Abaco or any other Family Island to break away so at least the "few" that remain sane can try to raise our families without fear of being gunned down in the streets or succumbing to financial destitution due to fiscal mismanagement and corruption?
No one in this country should pay further real property tax until this situation is dealt with as it would be for any other person, namely revalue property according to current Appraisal, impose Surcharges and Interest going back not 12 years, as should be the law, but rather 20 as the Real Property Tax Department has been doing on advise from the Attorney General's Office for many years now. The new Assessment should be published in "The Tribune", along with the Recepit evidencing payment, failing which the property should be auctioned under the Department's power of sale and the proceeds used to pay the bill and the balance, if any, given to Mr. lLightbourne, who from all accounts could probably use the money to pay other bills, including forthcoming VAT on whatever financial service advise he offers. Bearing in mind there are currently NO Amensety periods in place, no one, including non-Bahamainas should pay real property tax until verifiable evidence of this matter having been dealt with to the satisfaction of the Bahamian people.
Someone appears to have finally woken up after 40 years of Independence to recognize the need to protect our borders and marine resources. Reality is such that this should be nothing more than a typical day for our Defence Force. Nonethess, we should be positive and applaud this new effort in the hope that it truly becomes a daily routine.
Regrettably, the good Doctor in the process of performing open heart surgery, where life and death is literally placed in his hands, has developed a "Godly" complex, which he now wishes to carry over to become our Prime Minister.
I suppose the gist of all this is that BoB is going down, so presumably there will be run on the Bank tomorrow, assuming of course those in the know have not already cleared out the vault. Should be an interesting week, albeit another sad event to celebrate 40 years of self governance.
Time to arm private citizens. Yes , there will be an increase in domestic killings if Bahamians continue sweetheartiing, but these can easily be prosecuted and the rest of us can at least defend ourselves from being gunned down in the streets like helpless dogs as Government and Police have proven useless.
You are a very understanding man given that the flip side of your ordeal is that "we" as a country have been negligent in not remdeying this death trap sooner and indeed, will only now consider addressing as a result of your unfortunate experience, which was by no means an accident, as saddly those responsible for ensuring safe passage through our shipping/yachting lanes knew full well this was a disaster waiting to happen. Accordingly, thank you for not suing "our" Government for compensation.
