Shame on our local vets, who have conveniently highlighted the problem with Bahamian protectionism generally, in that it benefits no one, least of all Bahamians and in this case, our Potcakes.
Mr. Blakeley, Bahamians are neither dump nor desperate, so save your hoodwinking for the more gullible. Who in their right mind would even consider, let alone actual proceed to construct a dock on what is considered to be one of the top 10 beaches in the world! And now, you look for us to believe and trust in what else you have to say?!?
Instead of asking Bahamians to "pull up their socks" and increase productivity in an effort to revive our economy, we are instead celebrating our descent into bankruptcy by declaring holidays for those responsible for such demise. Fortunately, the rest of the world, including the IMF, already view us as being on "permanent" holiday, so hopefully they will just laugh at this latest confirmation of their accurate assessment and not down grade us still further!
Should we not be focused on working harder and longer in the hope of emerging from recessionary times, as opposed to working less?!? Maybe if ever this day occurs, we can refer to this truly historic date in history as National Sense Day!
Instead of focusing on increasing prooductivity in the hope of emerging from recessionary times, it would appear our PM is instead focused on working less by declaring Public Holidays. Unlikely to be the most effective strategy as we continue to stumble towards bankruptcy.
Hopefully Monday will bring a number of resignations, firings and discharges, together with an international apology from our PM, so that we can begin to heal as a nation and slowly start to raise our heads again, otherwise our 40th Anniversary will be marked in history as one of embarrassment in terms of human rights, which at the end of the day was what Indenpendence was supposed to be all about by ensuring self determination.
I did not give this story much credit when it first broke, but it now appears as if there is definite fire beneath the smoke and our country's reputation is at stake internationally, which could potentially have horrendous touristic consequences. As concerned Bahamians celebrating 40 years of independence, we should not view this as political opportunity, but do nonetheless need our Government to get out in front of this embarassing occurance before it gets "much" worse. Clearly Mitchel was wrong when he adamantly declared the mock video as "complete fiction" and accordingly, under our Westminster model of Government should immediately tender his resignation. All RBDF and Detention Officers in any way connected need to be immediately relieved of duty and discharged, including those who witnessed, but chose to do nothing. Likewise, if Senior Personnel, including the responsible Minister were made aware and chose not to act, they must also go. Such action needs to occur tomorrow, rather than later, failing which the PM could find himself having to resign or contesting a legitimate vote of no confidence.
Where is the famous "Urban Renewal", oh I forgot, that was merely for political capital. The manner in which a society treats defenseless animals is indicative of social advancement as a whole, which if this is true, there is little to be celebrating after 40 years of self governance.
