The "teachable moment" in all of this is that, moving forward, Bahamians must demand highly intelligent and efficient leaders. Race should not play a factor at all in deciding a leader, nor should charisma etc. We need global commerce and business savy, highly intelligent leaders, or, as is the case here, the whole Bahamas will suffer. The grass roots need to wake up; being black and PLP doesn't cut it anymore. Vote intelligence and efficiency or suffer the consequences.

Exactly. Our only hope is DNA.

After the Bahamas is bankrupt and labeled a failed state by the IMF, I would not be at all surprised if it is discovered that Swiss bank accounts of our political officials contain 3 to 4 billion dollars of the peoples' money just sitting there.

Bahamian independence was one of the worst business decisions in the history of the world. Who would trust these dancing, smirking fools with $5, let alone $6 billion. The Queen must chuckle to herself on a daily basis: what a bunch of idiots those majority rule Bahamians turned out to be!

Having read the article, I don't like the sound of what's going to happen to the remaining 51% of the shares of Holdingco. Seems like a perfect setup for another Blue Water fiasco, where politicians and their snakey friends buy up the shares at rock bottom prices. These shares should be held in trust inpertuity for the Bahamian people and lessen some of our tax and borrowing burdens.I ask that the PRESS keep a keen eye out for the beneficiaries of these Holdingco shares.

What we're seeing more and more of in this country is a troubling trend of the Government vesting power in a small group of private individuals at the expense of the majority of Bahamians. This was the case with the numbers licensing: an elite group were given ownership of what should have been illegal, or at least a publicly run lottery. Now, we are seeing it in the telecoms, where a public company (owned by the public at large) has been removed from the peoples' pockets and given to a few private elites. This dangeous dance of creating billionaires at the expense of the billions has been shown a democratic failure in both the US and South America 1%, where wealth disparity is at an all time high, leading to social unrest, monopolies and general unfairness.

Has the liberalisation of cellular benefited Bahamians? Jobs have been lost, call prices have not decreased at all, and quality of calls remains exactly the same -- poor. The concrete answer is NO. It is clear that the divesting of BTC from the Bahamian people was a well planned scheme. The people have been robbed! One of their most valuable assets has been handed over to private interest groups.

It's about time investors like assiseeit (above) took a stand. How can any investor buy bonds in this country in good conscience, knowing full well the treasury is being looted by moronic spendthrift dictators, who are content with borrowing their own people into abject poverty. It is time to say NO! Without a Freedom of Information Act and proper audits and public records, no further money should be leant.

When has a Bahamian leader done something worthy of respect. Respect must be earned. All I hear from them are excuses: 6 billion dollars gone, and I don't know where it went. Crime is high as hell, but I don't know how to stop it. Your VAT money is safe, but you cant see how I'm spending it. What a bunch of pretenders. If you can't solve the problem you were hired to fix, then resign.

The deconstruction of Perry Christie and his dictatorship built on racist propaganda. Finally, the covers have been torn off revealing the money grovelling and power mongering man he is. No longer do Bahamians wish for leaders to wield the race card like a lightsaber. They demand accountability, transparency and fair dealing.
