Let's face it folks, the offshore financial services ship has already sailed. It's to late. With FACTA etc. The Bahamas has already lost and should focus on other revenue streams. If the legal profession is opened up, which I now believe it should not be, it needs to be done very carefully to ensure that international firms do not canibalise the already sparse legal work that Bahamian Attorney's enjoy. International firms should not directly compete with Bahamian Attorney's for common legal matters. They should be restricted to hedge funds, investment funds, forex etc. They should not be allowed to do personal injury, trademarks, company opinions, contracts etc. It concerned me that the restricted areas mentioned were only family law, criminal law and realestate. For small civil lawyers, family law and criminal law are not lucrative at all and most of the big firms do the real estate tractions. That leaves the small man with PI, trademarks, probates etc. The majority of local lawyers' work comes from the US and international sources. It would be horrifying and a complete betrayal of the Bahamian people if big US Firms are enabled to compete with Bahamian Attorneys for these matters.
I agree. I live in a house with a clear view of Blackbeard's Cay and have no problem with the project. It is clear that the Baystreet merchants are using this as a tool to prevent others competing with their monopoly. I have traveled to Blackbeard's Cay by boat on several occasions and everything looks beautiful and in order. Why put people out of work, for the select interests of a few?
Where did Bahamar get its legal advice from? This was as clear a case of forum non conveniens as ever. He should go after those blood thirsty US attornies that advised him to file chapter 11 in the US and charged him millions in fees. Any freshly minted lawyer could tell you the best choice of forum for a hotel located in The Bahamas is The Bahamas itself. Whomever told him otherwise was obviously thinking about fees, rather than merit.
I'm going get real angry real soon. Leave the prostitutes alone. Men have scientifically proven sexual needs. These women fulfill those needs. Most of them are just strippers, not prostitutes. The police took their hard earned money, which would have been used to support their children most likely. Amnesty International has decided to support the rights of sex workers. Make love not war. Police. Go after the murderers and leave these poor, despondent women alone. It's very easy to pick on them. Stop being a big bully and do something useful.
In my opinion, anyone who says the two Disney employees should be fired should themself be fired, because they have revealed themself to be a moronic idiot. Those two Disney employees should be given medals by the Bahamian Government for providing valuable consultancy on the putrid filth that is down town. How dare you offer this filth of a town as a tourist port. How dare you offer broken buildings and trash to 3 million tourists each year. Better your product or get out of the market altogether. How dare you broadcast commercials that paint the Bahamas as divine, and then serve tourists a load of crap -- that, my friend, is misrepresentation.
Anyone angry at the video is a complete moron. Firstly, the video was factual. Baystreet is a complete dump and it's surprising the only tourists that still go there aren't rats and roaches. There's absolutely nothing to do after 8 PM and absolutely nothing worth seeing, other than Graycliff. Junkanoo Beach is a cesspool and a national disgrace filled with bums, vagrants and thugs. Secondly, the video was satirical. If you don't understand satire and figurative language, I advise you to go back to school. Thank goodness for these two persons, who pointed out the obvious for all the dummy Baystreet merchants: your product sucks! To the radio personality that took offence, I am very surprised. You seem very willing to spout off whenever "black" politicians do something stupid. Now that the Baystreet Boys are criticized for being lazy monopolists, you take offence. Finally, the very fact this video sparked outrage suggests it hit close to home -- the truth hurts. Rather than deny the obvious, do something about it.
The one thing I've learned from Bahamian politicians is,"deny, deny, deny," no matter if it's true or false, so long as you're not in front of a Judge or swearing an affidavit, "deny, deny, deny." What a great example for our youth. What a great example of people who care nothing for the Bahamian people but only for themselves.
The Press, you can't have it both ways! For weeks, you have been reporting crime is out of control and the Police need to crack down using draconian methods. Now, you are implying the Police are using too much force and acting heavy handed. Are you schizophrenic? We all know that if the Police crack down, there will be accidents involved. Support the Police and their efforts, as they risk their lives for us each day. You blame politicians for flip flopping, but you are acting in much the same way. Or, are you just looking to ponyback on the US Black Lives Matter movement, eventhough we live in a majority black country? Make up your mind. Are you realy for defeating crime or just looking for a story? We all know criminals run this town and restoring peace to the streets will take a concerted effort of The Press and Police working together to change the status quo -- which is to do nothing and watch The Bahamas burn.
