This smells bad. The whole point of a public park is to be untouched by private hands. I see a storm brewing on this one. Would become so easy for deals under the table. Let Albany donate to the National Trust but not build in the park.
Re Bogart Don't you see it yet? This is the favorite trick of Bahamian politicians. It is being g used time and again: Pyramid scheme. Export the profits. Become insol insolvent. Leave Government and tax payers on hook to cover the loss, because it's "too big to fail" or harms poor Bahamians. Again and again and again.
Last time I checked BISX had about twenty very handsomely paid employees and most days there's no trading. The miniscule amount of trading that occurs could likely be done by one person and a PC. Talk about waste and spending overkill.
And guess what Bahamas? All it will take is a bit more heat between US and China and Americans may refuse to stay at Baha Mar or The Pointe, because of spying and safety/retribution fears. You idiots did a deal with the Devil, with a regime that locks up millions in concentration camps. You big bunch of idiots! You did a deal with a country that outlaws Christianity, and you call yourself a Christian nation. Sit small.
Re MadHatter I wouldn't be surprised if the recently changed US view of China as an enemy of democracy (see Pence speech) has thrown the FNM plans into chaos and the reason they are so quiet now. I have little doubt most of the "big" economic news Minnis had in the pipeline for eager Bahamians revolved around Chinese loans and construction. Now that China has been declared US enemy number one, the FNM have to sit small and crickets chirping. Chinese loans have revealed as predatory and subvervisive with strings attached. Baha Mar was one big Chinese trap. Boy what idiots PLP were to chose China over Izmirlian. Now, with The Point, they basically own our tourist port too. At least the news is out for black Bahamian dummies now that they are China's bitch. Idiots!
I love how he says, "Doing nothing not an option" now that the cronies have stollen all our money. If you wrote a fairytail about good and evil, it would be difficult to create characters more corrupt than Bahamian officials.
If I give a $500,000 loan to someone making $1,000 a month, is that a bad loan? It seems that they would categorize this as a bad loan, when it is in fact an act of fraudulent theft. If I give an unsecured 20 million dollar loan to a politician, is that a bad loan? The term "bad loan" should only be used when all the internationally accepted procedures are set in place and the loan still fails due to completely unpredictable circumstances.
We need to define "bad loans." This phrase is being used too often. It reminds me of Perry's "teachable moment." I would venture that the phrase "bad loans" is a euphemism for theft!
